Indian summer...

After a summer of pretty rubbish weather, October has dawned bright and sunny. Unfortunately I have packed away all of my summer clothes (into vacuum pack bags nonetheless!) and was stuck on what to wear when it hit the mid twenties this weekend.

My slip dress from Boux Avenue (yes I still love this brand!) was perfectly light and floaty and with a cardigan on, I'm sure no-one even realised that it was supposed to be underwear!   I loved the design of this and as ever, the detailing is what really sets it apart. I can't wait to wear this as an extra layer in winter with the cute lace detailing poking out under the hem of my dresses and I think it will look as equally cute as it does in the sunshine... you have to love a versatile piece of clothing!


To avoid it looking too shapeless I cinched it in with my favourite belt and threw on this coral cardigan to give it a bit of colour. With my untanned limbs, I needed a colour pop to avoid looking like Casper! 



This was also the reasoning for wearing this pop of coral lipstick. I had just finished a really busy week at work and this Rimmel lipstick in 'Tell No-one' was the perfect colour to brighten up my tired skin and even put a smile on my face!



Recently I seem to be wearing styles and colours of things that I loved 2 years ago but haven't worn for a while and this lipstick is one such thing. For a while I avoided wearing bright lipsticks but recently I have come back round to them ... I guess fashion and style really is cyclical!

New Look A/W press day (PICTURE HEAVY)

Last week I went to my very first press day to see the New Look A/W 2011 collection and I have to say now choosing photos for this post was extremely difficult. I saw some really lovely things and I am pretty sure that all of my money will be going into the pockets of New Look. 

This was in the kid's section but I'm sure I could squeeze into it...right? 


























The building was absolutely gorgeous and showed off the clothes perfectly. There was a gorgeous mix of jewel colours, embellishment and prints. The accessories were lovely, especially all of the different ol prints. The styling of the pieces was spot on and really showed off the pieces to their full potential.

Granny chic...

I want to introduce you to my new friend; a metallic skirt that treads the fine line between granny and chic. It is so lightweight, so perfect for Spring, and the beautiful coppery brown colour tones down the twee pastel tones I have been pairing it with! It really is true love... It's not something that I would usually go for, but I think that is one of the reasons why I love it. It is such an unusual colour and a slightly more challenging length than I'm used to, but I have so many different combinations planned out! I think the difficulty will be prising it off, rather than trying it on!

I cannot believe how lovely and warm it has been this past couple of days too! The sunshine was so warm here that I even discarded tights to embrace wedges for a taste of Summer [Apologies for my milky white legs, they haven't  been exposed to sunlight before today!] I did get some funny looks and the occasional car hornas I skipped through the park but I was having too much fun to care! 



You can also see my new haircut in these pictures! I didn't have much trimmed off but I had a load of the weight taken out and my hair feels so much better for it :) I went to a little salon called Cabello Hairdressing in Kenilworth and I can really recommend it, the stylists are always lovely and friendly ( I always have Michelle) and you get a cup of tea or coffee...what more can you ask for?! 



You can see the horse print on the body a bit better here, I thought it added a bit of interest to an otherwise plain outfit and tied in the colour of my accessories. I was inspired by the way that various bloggers have worn the [now infamous!] Topshop pleated skirt, as collated here by Hannah  and I think the knotted belt is a bit more 'fashiony' than my usual skinny waist belts.

I have a weekend of essay prep and house cleaning/sorting ahead of me so I am already planning ways to break up these rather dull tasks, most notably catching up o my new favourite show; Glory Daze, a bit like American Pie but set in 1986. If you haven't seen it yet, then check it out on 4OD because it is so funny, the last episode had me laughing all of the way through and it is full of really cute guys (I'm in love with Joel, what a cutie! <3 )

A very English Style...

After reading Kristabel's post about some of the lovely presents she got for Christmas, I promised myself that I would treat myself to one book I have had my eye on for quite some time; Luella's guide to English Style. I had gazed at it longingly when I was searching for Christmas presents for other people but no-one picked up on my (not so subtle!) hints. Finally then I bought it here, whilst I was browsing Amazon for DVDs- I promise it's for my dissertation! Now Luella is was probably my favourite designer brand and I think this is because of the dreamy silhouettes and bright pops of colour and pattern- basically my ideal wardrobe!

Now I am lucky enough to own a genuine piece of Luella, just before the label folded and the website was taken down, I was having a sneaky browse (does anyone else do 'dream shopping'?!) and clicked on the link to the 'Rebecca' dress. The only one left was in my size and before I knew it some Luella loveliness was winging it's way towards me... I have only worn it a couple of times, one was to a student night (what WAS I thinking?!!!) but it gives me the fizzy feeling that I think is so important with clothes.  But this post is not just an ode to Luella, but rather to my new coat, part of the bloggers challenge with Tesco. I love the belted waist and the buttons are so cute! It reminded me of the book as there is something quintessentially English about a brown check, do you agree? 


I decided to choose something that I wouldn't normally choose myself and saw this beauty on the website. It is gorgeously warm and fits like a dream. The one quibble I have is the fastening at the top can make me look ridiculously busty if I have a lot of layers on underneath so watch out for that!

I first put together this outfit in the summer but of course it was far too warm to wear it then so the weather today was just perfect. I felt with the topknot (trying to keep my hair out of my eyes!) it was an outfit worthy of Luella and it was an outfit that put a spring in my step; a necessity as I didn't get the graduate scheme that I really wanted :( I guess I just have to keep positive and move on to the next one now!

"Oh my goodness, I *love* that lace dress! My perfect pamper evening:First of all I'd prepare myself a delicious meal - I love cooking so a few hours in the kitchen in nice and relaxing for me. Before I eat, I would have a really nice big bubble bath- probably with something from Lush. and with a facemask on. Then I'd give myself a manicure and pedicure, cover myself in body moisturiser (preferably a tanning one!) and jump into some comfy PJs. The rest of the evening would be spent eating my yummy meal, drinking wine and reading a book or watching some trashy t.v. Love the blog btw, I think it's really fab :) The only people currently reading mine are the three other contirbuters, haha! x"
