Camel and Clarks...

I have been feeling pretty ropy recently but it was Mark's birthday on April fool's day and rather than wallowing at home, we decided to go out to Gloucester Quays for a little bit of shopping and a lot of food at Portivo Lounge. We are massive fans of the chain and Impero Lounge is one of our favourite places to go when we visit our friends in Portishead so we had high hopes! The food was delicious and although the atmosphere was a little lacking, it was early on a Wednesday night so we can forgive them for that! I didn't want to get all dressed up but as we were celebrating Mark's birthday, I wanted to make some effort so went for my favourite skinny jeans and a jazzy top instead. It seemed fitting that I wore my birthday present from him on his birthday so I pulled this gorgeous camel coat out of the wardrobe and it was the perfect finishing touch to this outfit. Outlet shopping can be a bit hit and miss but I am a massive fan and I even managed to pick up a few bargains (including this gorgeous Gap dress) which I will be sharing soon :)

Coat: H&M via Mark, top: Warehouse, jeans: ASOS, shoes: Clarks
Since buying my GHDs I have been wearing my hair straight more and more often as it is just so easy and helps me feel more pulled together (even if the truth is a different story!) My fringe had got far too long by this point so I pinned it back and I quite like how severe it looks, especially paired with this darker lipstick (Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Crush FYI)

The sleeves are the best part about this top-  they are much more interesting than regular sleeves and are super cosy too- no cardigan is needed with these bad boys! The print on this top is really unusual too, it reminds me of ink stains and is much more interesting than your bog standard florals...

These gorgeous suede shoes were another Clarks sales bargain a while ago and I really love them. I find suede shoes so easy to wear and these are ridiculously comfy, even after wandering around outlet shops all evening ;)

A Street shopping spree...

I spent a good portion of last weekend wandering around the many shops at Clarks Village in Street, Somerset. I was quite restrained (for me) and limited myself to this dress and pair of shoes and a super jazzy pair of trousers for the summer. Unfortunately the mornings are still a bit gloomy here so my coat was still necessary but I'm so glad that I am able to take photos outside again. I think every fashion blogger hates the impracticality of winter!

Coat: Dannimac from my mum, dress: Whistles, shoes: Clarks, bag: Miss Selfridge
Whistles is one of those shops that I had resigned myself to gazing wistfully out for at least 10 more years before being able to buy anything. I always love their clothes and when I saw this dress on the reduced rail I snapped it up. It was originally £110 (!) but the label said £30 and I finally bought it for £15 and I couldn't be happier. My love of white dresses (especially if they are broderie anglaise!) is well documented and this is a worthy addition to my collection. I love the sleeves and the length is perfect for work, I imagine this will be getting a lot of wear this summer...

A close up of that gorgeous cut-work! I have had this bag for quite a while now and it matches perfectly with my beautiful new shoes from my beloved Clarks.

I have been looking for a pair of pink flats ever since I bought these pink heels for my graduation. I love the colour but heels are completely impractical for everyday wear so I have been looking for the perfect pair of flats ever since... These are a beautiful soft suede with a teeny block heel and so far are ridiculously comfy, here's hoping they don't need much more breaking in! I was so excited when I saw them and I was so happy to finally add them to my wardrobe.

Which brands can you only dream of buying from?

Peach parfait...

Just as I thought we were finally moving into Spring time, back came the rain. It has been utterly miserable here for the past few days and so I have been looking for some brighter pieces to wear. I wore this outfit a few weeks ago in similar weather and the coral skirt was the perfect antidote to add some cheer to the gloomy days. This Warehouse skirt was an absolute bargain in the Christmas sales - for just £5 I got the perfect A-line skirt in one of my favourite colours. Thank you shopping gods! (I also bought this dress at the same time, it was definitely a good day to go shopping!) Warehouse is one of those brands where I love their clothes but I find them just that little bit too expensive to shop at, unless there is a sale. I absolutely love every Warehouse thing I own (this shirt and top get a lot of wear) but I have never bought anything full price from them...

Cardigan: BHS via Mark's mum, top: New Look, necklace: Dorothy Perkins via charity shop, skirt: Warehouse at Debenhams, tights:Tesco, shoes: Office.
The material feels like a mixture of crepe paper (remember those art lessons at school?!) and thick coated cotton, which means it keeps its shape nicely. I also love the high waist as it holds in my food baby nicely ;) If we ever get some proper sunshine this year, I plan to wear it with my oversized denim shirt and some tan sandals...

Recently I have been brushing out my curls into soft waves, which I have never been able to do before (thanks frizzy hair!) I really love it, it looks quite retro to me but that could be due to the glasses! I'm wearing the infamous Revlon lipbutter in 'Peach Parfait' here and my lucky necklace which matched the skit perfectly. I knew hoarding would come in handy at some point ;)

Which shops do you only ever buy from in the sales? Are you a hoarder?

Back to work blues...

I think everyone has found the last week or so a bit of a shock if they were off over Christmas and New Year. Going back to work is killer. Although I prefer a routine, when you have been getting up at 11 and lazing around on the sofa all day, getting up at 5 am is very hard to do. Luckily this beautiful tweed dress from Monsoon (favourite sale item?) made my first day back much nicer! I love love love the tweed and the fact it has pockets MADE MY DAY. Please excuse my dazed expression in these photos, this was about half 5 so I look completely slightly dopey...

Dress: Monsoon, sheer shirt: New Look, belt: Primark, tights: ASDA, shoes: Office
I love pinafore dresses (see here and here for proof!) and I love the fact that this dress can be worn on its own or  layered up with one of my many sheer blouses for a slightly different look. The length is perfect for work and although I felt slightly like a schoolgirl, I think this is one of those outfits where you show a bit of  personality, but it is still appropriate for a more conservative office...

Paired with my trusty black patent skinny belt (I must have about 5 of these!) and my Opi x James Bond nail varnish I managed to make myself feel more pulled together for my first day back. It's funny how just little things like having your nails painted can make such a difference isn't it?

Hopefully by the end of this week I will have settled into a routine again. Luckily I have some of my best friends coming to stay and a birthday meal and film night to look forward to this weekend, having plans is definitely making it easier to get through the week!

What makes you feel 'pulled together'? How did you ease yourself back into work after Christmas?

How to wear burgundy...

Every year certain colours come back around and burgundy/oxblood/berry/bordeaux,whatever you want to call it, is one that you can guarantee everyone will be wearing, come the winter months .  I must hold my hands up, I am a big fan of the colour and I seem to have acquired more than a few items in this gorgeous berry shade over the years...

Dress: Forever 21, belt: Primark, tights: John Lewis, shoes:Kurt Geiger, glasses: Gok Wan at Specsavers
I promised you a review of my (other) new glasses so here you go, these beauties from Gok Wan have become my 'everyday' specs as they are more subtle than my other pair and the slight Miss Moneypenny look to them works better in the office I feel ;) I'm still not used to my face with spectacles (any tips on how to get used to them would be much appreciated!) but Mark thinks they make me look older, what do you guys think?
Lipstick: Shade 107 in the Kate Moss matte lipstick range- the perfect berry lipstick
Here is your first look too at my gorgeous new handbag! Part birthday present and part reward to myself for my promotion, this baby is a 100% leather bag from Radley in a (you guessed it!) lovely shade of burgundy that is the perfect size for an everyday handbag.

The focus of the outfit for me though was this gorgeous pair of patent Mary Janes (a bargain at Swindon designer outlet a few weeks ago) They are the kind of shoes that make you do a jig of happiness whenever you catch a glimpse of them. They are surprisingly comfortable considering the height and even I managed a whole day in them- total success!

I love the fact that my tights match the colour of the shoes perfectly- hello optical illusion of having long(er) legs!
Even my drink matched! My first black forest hot chocolate of the year went down a treat before I headed to Zizzi's, talk about an indulgent afternoon!

Have you fallen for burgundy this Autumn? (har har) Any tips on how to get used to wearing glasses?

Checking out peplums...

I have seen quite a few bloggers wearing those amazing checked Uniqlo trousers and when I saw how awesome Jen, Hannah and Claire looked, I wanted in on the checked action. I picked up this pair of trousers after a lunchtime trip to New Look and I love the slim cut mixed with the check pattern.

Top: Primark, trousers:New Look, belt: Miss Selfridge, shoes:New Look
I finally got my hair cut at the weekend and it feels so much better, if anyone is looking for a hairdressers in Cheltenham then I would definitely recommend Blushes on Montpellier, I have been a few times now and I trust them with my hair (which is definitely a big deal for me!)

I have had this top for a few years and I thought the slightly flared hem would work with the narrow cut of the trousers. I'm not sure what I think of the peplum trend, I love it on other people but I can't help but think that my hips don't need any help in looking any wider so (I hope) this hem is a subtle nod to the trend...

I love how this looks like my legs continue from one photo to the next, small things eh?!
The trousers are thin but still really warm and I can't wait to pair them with cosy jumpers and my favourite ankle boots when it gets colder, I think I will be going for androgynous layers this winter rather than my usual dresses and tights. I love the checked print and they will definitely be getting a lot of wear this winter!

Would you wear a peplum? Do you own a pair of checked trousers?

Uniqlo x Orla Kiely- the dress...

I have never bought any collaboration pieces before now  as there has never been one which I felt justified the cost of the items in question but when I saw the Uniqlo x Orla Kiely collaboration, I fell head over heels. I loved the colourful prints and the fact that it wasn't massively over-priced (take note H&M!)

Dress: Uniqlo x Orla Kiely, coat: Dannimac via my mum, belt: Primark, shoes: New Look via eBay
Apologies for the awkward face in these photos, I have had the most horrific cold/flu the past week or so and this was the red raw nose stage- not pretty. It was a bit of a faff getting hold of my lovely clothes as the courier seemed to mislay the parcel but luckily I was able to re-order all but one thing. I think I actually prefer this dress in the green/grey than the original red I had picked...

As soon as the dress arrived though, I knew it would match perfectly with these shoes. I got the shoes for a mere £3.99 on eBay a few years ago and replaced the original shoe laces with some cream ribbon, much prettier, don't you agree?

I love the fact that this dress has cute cropped sleeves, I prefer 3/4 length sleeves merely because I can still show off my snazzy watch ;)

Obligatory twee collar shot. Although I often fall foul of a blogger cliché or two, this is actually the first dress I own with a peter pan collar, where do I hand my blogger membership in to?! I know quite a few people who have snapped up some pieces from the collection and both Jen and Kristabel have this dress and have definitely given me some inspiration for how to wear it once the weather cools down...

You can't really see it in any of these photos but I managed to get my hands on the berry shade from the Kate Moss matte lipstick collection which I love, it is perfect for Autumn and I will be doing a proper post on it soon!

Do you like designer collaborations?

Wearing my heart on my sleeve...

Cheesy I know but is there a more apt title for an outfit post featuring this wonderful cardigan?! A long grey cardigan has long been a staple in my wardrobe, ever since I got this grey one as a 16th birthday present it barely left my body but unfortunately I lost it a while back (to this day I still don't know where!) and I have been searching for a replacement ever since...

Cardigan: ASOS, top: Hobbs, jeans: Topshop, boots: Dr. Martens

Ever since I first got my hands on my first pair of Doc Martens, I have been unstoppable and I spied these boots in their sale. Funnily enough these boots are also replacing old favourites, my beloved Nine West biker boots (which I can't believe I have never blogged) as they have worn beyond repair :( They weren't cheap but I know they will last forever and I would rather spend my money on something that can actually withstand the winter weather!

These are a gorgeous rough suede which feels really luxurious and makes these feel a bit less utilitarian, despit their practicality, definitely a win from me!

I love the cardi, it is just the right thickness and the length is near perfect. I bought it a size down but it is still quite roomy so size down unless you like an oversized fit! I am also quite tempted by the jumper too, I may be taking another look on payday...

The elbow patches can't fail to put a smile on your face!

Originally I put my boots on as it was really windy and rainy but they were just far too warm for the weirdly warm weather so I switched to some cute patterned socks and my trusty loafers instead. I'm not actually sure which version if the outfit I prefer, I usually avoid socks but I think I will be investing in some cute patterned ones for Autumn now I'm wearing jeans again!

Just to show off the bouncing soles, I really am in love!

What items in your wardrobe have been replaced time and time again? Do you prefer the boots or the loafers?

Betty Draper inspired...

Can you tell I have been watching Mad Men again?! 2 Mad Men inspired outfits in the space of a week may just give it away! I panic bought this dress with a credit voucher before it expired [learn from my mistakes: DON'T LOSE YOUR RECEIPTS!] but actually I love it! It is similar to this dress from Topshop but much dressier...

Dress: Mela from New Look, belt: New look, shoes: ASDA, jacket: Principles, sunglasses:  Accessorize
I did take some photos without my sunglasses on but the light was so bright that I was squinting horribly in each one. For a change though, I was glad it was sunny, two of my best friends came to stay and we spent the weekend just chilling out and catching up...perfection!

Sort of an outtake but it shows off the gorgeous pleated skirt...
I wasn't intending to wear much make-up (if any) with this outfit but I was paranoid about my nails not matching with anything else so I  whipped out my trusty lipstain to tie everything together. With the addition of some flicked liquid eyeliner, I was retro-ified and good to go!

Hilarious pin-up style pose.... with a Ford KA, oh what glamourous lives bloggers lead! ;)

What has been inspiring you recently? Do you panic buy clothes?

Cream lace and coral lips...

Wow. What a weekend! I spent this weekend in Birmingham with a group of lovely ladies drinking, dancing and having fun and I had the most amazing time. #bloggersinbrum definitely needs to become a regular thing! I bought this dress yesterday in Forever 21 and it was perfect for a lazy Sunday after a night out!  I have never bought anything from Forever 21 before, despite having visited several times as I just find the Birmingham store massively overwhelming. Apparently they are downsizing it slightly and reorganising it so hopefully it will be easier to find my way around, there are plenty of gems in amongst the rails though, you just have to be patient enough to search!

Dress: Forever 21, bralet [under dress]: Accessorize shoes: Office, blazer: Tesco
I have been looking for a replacement for my white H&M summer dress for a while now and after some gentle persuasion yesterday, I bought this one. I love the colour and the shape of it, despite it reminding me of my favourite nightie, and I think the looser shape will make it perfect for holiday...

The lace detail on this is absolutely stunning, and I love the fact it continues down the sleeve too, I have been really drawn to things with sleeves recently so this was a big draw for me...

Plus, it has buttons down the back! This is definitely one of those dresses that I will end up wearing back to front as the detailing is just so pretty, I have been doing this a lot recently with some lower cut tops and dresses, just having the slightly higher neckline makes them infinitely more wearable and the detail on this makes it an equally attractive candidate!

Another day, another Max Factor lipstain, this one in a bright punchy coral (number 07) to add some colour to an otherwise pale outfit...

I am dreading the photos from last night appearing (no-one needs to have my Dad dancing revealed in all its glory!) but I had such an amazing time and I can't wait to see Eloise, Claire, Sarah, Gemma, Gem, Emma, Rebecca, Char, Alex, Sian and Annabel again very soon.

Where have you found unexpected treasures recently? Who have you been partying with recently?
