Blackout...

Despite its popularity amongst women of all shapes and sizes, I have never been one for wearing all black, I find bright colours much more flattering and way more fun to wear. With my dark hair and pale skin, an all black outfit just feels a bit costume-y. Don't get me wrong, I love it on other people (Steph at Faiiint always looks amazing in black) but until now, I have remained unconvinced. As you can see though, this all changed  last week when my Monki order arrived containing this rather lovely black jumper. I loved the mix of textures when I paired it with my (p)leather trousers and I felt super cool in this outfit, I definitely got my strut on!

Jumper: Monki, top: Primark, pleather trousers/waxed jeans: River Island, shoes: Dorothy Perkins
I love the cut out shoulders on this jumper, it certainly makes a plain black jumper more interesting! I was quite pleased with how my hair and make up looks here too, not bad for one of my first outfits back in the real world after being poorly!

See what I mean about a mix of textures?! I'm pretty sure I have shrunk since I last wore these trousers, heels are most definitely necessary. I don't wear these shoes as often as I would like as me and heels are a bit of a lethal combination (comfort is most definitely a priority!) but they definitely help to make any outfit look much more elegant.

How would you style this jumper?

All black looks so chic on you. I tend to avoid black as I love bright colours but am going to try varying the textures to see if it makes it a bit more "me"! x

You look great in an all black outfit! I think it's about the tiny details like the red nail polish. I also try to avoid wearing black, and when I do, I have to tie my hair up otherwise it does look a bit "morticia aadams!" :-( but wearing an all black outfit always makes me look older so I opt for this on nights out! xx

Those pleather's are delicious! I'm still kicking myself for not getting a pair last year. It's so weird that I'll be wearing an all black outfit in my post tomorrow, I also tried to play with textures to make it work. Steph does always look beautiful in black but you're looking good too lady!

I know what you mean about black. I have the same problem with dark hair and pale skin and tend to lean towards bright colours. Layering textures is a great way to add interest to an all black outfit and I think it looks great on you with the heels for added glamour. Love the jumper, I would wear it with a pair of patterned trousers.

I just ventured into the world of pleather after I found a pair of trousers like these in the Zara sale - you've given me some styling ideas now :)

Maria you should definitely wear black more often, it really suits you (though I may be biased!) I am also extremely jealous that you manage to look great in any colour you try, I don't know many people who can pull off super brights, pastels & all black too! :)
