80s workwear...

As you may know, when Danni and I went to a jumble sale a while ago, I picked up a Liz Clairborne blouse, mainly because of it's gorgeous billowing sleeves.
Seen here with Noo-Noo and my teapot! ;)

HOWEVER, when it came to styling it, whatever I put with it made me look like I was wearing a waitressing uniform or work-wear straight out of the 80s. I eventually paired it with a skirt I would usually wear to go out but I hope the spots save it from looking too work-like, what do you think?
Have I done a good job?

Another problem is the fact it has this checked print on the front of the blouse making it difficult to match with other prints.. I refuse to be defeated by this but would appreciate some advice as to how to incorporate it into my wardrobe without wanting to cry with frustration every time I attempt it. I am handing this dilemma over to you dear readers!

How would you style it? Have you ever been 'defeated' by an item of clothing?

well I'd wear it with a cute little crochet casual waistcoat, black jeans and boots for a smart but edgy look!

Love it :D x

Thank you Eleanor! I wish I had a pair of jeans! :P I may try it with some trousers instead though? I'm intrigued as to how it could be styled because at the moment it's defeating me!

I think you did a good job with it. Pairing it with a bright skirt is such a good idea!!

Thank you Sherin! I was just worried that I looked completely 80s with the shoulder pads and then the poofy skirt! :P Hope you had a good holiday?

I think you've styled it pretty well, but I'd probably wear it with denim, corduroy or even leather shorts as an alternative, with cool tights. If the shape is loose, I'd probably wear it over a dress or playsuit.

i think it looks perfect with that skirt. personally, I love a good pattern clash, so this is quite demure and fun at the same time. i would also have bought them because of the sleeves!

Kristabel- Thank you, I was going to try it with my khaki shorts next time :) I just don't like things that are too loose- I think it makes me look a bit shapeless...

Fi- Thank you- I thought it worked with the skirt but I couldn't think of anything else to pair it with and I like to have options! Sleeves FTW!!

Style it like in your "big girls blouse" post, I think that would look really nice xxx

Thanks Becca! I will give it a go for sure... I think I was just in a bit of a tizz about it which is never good!

I really love that shirt on you! Because the print is not colourful and quite subtle I reckon pairing it with a really bold bright printed skirt, or something in monochrome would work really well.

Thanks Harriet! I think I'm going to try it with more patterns because that seemed to work, just black and cream look too much like a waitressing uniform!
