A weekend in Portishead... (PICTURE HEAVY)...

All I seem to be doing recently is travelling! This weekend, Mark, Sophie and I took a trip down to Portishead as our friends have just bought a house (!) there and they invited us down to see it. I had never been before so wasn't sure what to expect but it was lovely, very expensive looking but friendly too. Whilst we were down there, we also spent a day at the spa followed with some shopping at Street , definitely a girls' weekend cliche! The spa we went to was fab, and my neck and back massage was just what I needed to relax, after a stressful few weeks...


Portishead Marina- can I have a billionaire husband and a yacht please?! 


Lovely coloured flats at the water's edge. 


This was a some kind of animal made out of old oil and gas drums who I fell in love with, isn't he the cutest?! 


I had unfortunately dressed for sunnier climes so I had to bundle up in a scarf and gloves on top of my blazer. I found out that it gets pretty windy along the waterfront!


The rocks were a lot of fun for clambering all over, however old you get I don't think you ever grow out of this!

I think this was some kind of lighthouse which looked amazing. Imagine the view you would get from up there! These stone pillars were a bit strange, we decided in the end that they were markers for lost ships. Anyone care to put me right?


After a brisk walk we popped into Chandos Deli for a quick drink where I had the world's yummiest berry smoothie. The decor was quite minimalist but these flowers added a splash of colour to each table. 


These brightly coloured oranges looked amazing in the sunshine but the smell made me all nostalgic for Italy!


More lovely apartments (can you tell I'm jealous yet?!)


We saw lots of sculptures as we were walking around the marina but this one was definitely my favourite. These 3 matchsticks were huge and I did have trouble getting them into a photo but my contortions were worth it!  I love how the metal is carved to look like wood and they looked so realistic, I almost expected smoke to come off them!

Dilemma: H&M midi dress...

I bought this dress when I was last in Worcester from good old H&M. I love the colour and  length and it has proven to be a godsend for work but I'm just not sure how to style it without looking like someone's (frumpy) mother....

Dress: H&M, top [worn underneath]:  Gap, loafers: Office
In real life the skirt is perfectly swooshy and hangs nicely but I'm just not sure it is flattering me in the way a wrap dress should. I wanted it to be an easy throw-on outfit but these pictures have made me sure that I need to style it differently...


I love these shoes but I think they may have been too clunky for the dress, although I need the extra height due to where the skirt hits me on the leg. 


At least I can take some consolation in the fact that my top underneath matches perfectly!

These are the times we will remember...

There is no greater pleasure, than spending time with some of your best friends and I was lucky enough to do this last weekend. I am lucky enough to have a close-knit group of friends at home (who I have known for years) and we are all still very close despite being scattered across the country and when we meet up, it is as if we have never been apart. I can honestly say that food, drink and plenty of fun with your best friends is just what the doctor ordered...

A tourist in your own city: Worcester

It seems like I all have done recently is talk about being a tourist but sometimes you have to take a step back and appreciate the smaller things in life. These photos were taken a while back when Mark and I met up with my best friend Sophie in our local town, Worcester.

After all of your help with deciding to keep these boots, I paired them with this dress to give it a slightly cooler edge, the sheer tights also meant that I was less self conscious about stumpy leg syndrome too!

I think it is so easy to forget how beautiful places are if you see them regularly and it was nice to wander around, catching up and reminiscing with two of the best people in my life.  Worcester really is a lovely city and behind the cathedral is quiet despite being 2 minutes walk from the centre of town. 





Whatever your religious views, you cannot deny the grandeur and dignity of cathedrals, their very stones demand that you savour the moment and respect the history. 


My new boots proved to be exceedingly comfy and I cannot wait to pair them with chunky socks and a woollen dress this Autumn.

Recently, the training for work has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with long hours and lots to remember so I met up with Sophie again yesterday, which was the perfect antidote to all of the stress. Sophie is one of those people who never fails to cheer you up and I fell in love with her the moment we met at college 5 years ago.  She has been there for me through all of my ups and downs and I honestly don't know what I would do without her. Gorgeous, intelligent, funny and the best friend a girl could wish for... Recently I have been so grateful for all of the lovely people I have in my life and I just wanted to pay tribute to all of my wonderful friends and family and just wanted to let them know. Go and tell yours that you love them.

P.S. This was meant to be a light-hearted post but it turned into rather a weighty subject so apologies for that, at least there are pretty clothes to look at!
