Homemade caramelised onion bread...

When Mark and I moved out, one of the things I was most excited about was having our own bread-maker. For about 7 years now my family have had homemade bread and it is always much nicer than shop bought. The problem is, when there is 2 of you, rather than 7, a loaf doesn't get eaten fast enough. Recently I have been all about tear and share bread which is SO easy to do and really makes even the most uninteresting meal seem special...

I made a plain dough in our bread-maker which used flour, yeast, butter, milk powder, salt, water and olive oil  and added some caramelised onion into the dough as it was mixing.

This may not look appetising but I promise you that it tastes amazing.  Chop some onion and fry in olive oil, add a sprinkle of sugar and some balsamic vinegar for the most delicious caramelised onions you will ever eat.

I added about half of the onions onto the dough as it was mixing, so that it would flavour the bread itself then took the dough and shaped it into balls...

Add to the tray next to each other so that they form a vague loaf shape...

Add your remaining onion...

Cook in the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes.

Rip off chunks with your bare hands like a savage Serve with any meal you fancy and a nice glass of wine...

We went for pork and spinach with more caramelised onion!

Do you make your own bread? How do you make dinner more special?

I love making my own bread, it is so satisfying (and you're right it always tastes so much better than anything store bought). It is one of those things I wish I had more time to do, even if it can be quite time consuming xo

This looks yummy! My father is really into baking and he tends to do it in bulk and then freeze some of it...he often posts me some and it defrosts as it wings its way to me :) Definitely going to be bookmarking this recipe though as onions and bread are two of my favourite things!
