Clotted cream and cliff walks in Cornwall... (very PICTURE HEAVY)...

There's nothing nicer than going on holiday (except of course, coming back home) and the week I spent in Cornwall with Mark and his family provided a much needed break from both work and blog deadline. I have to say, I was a bit worried before I went as all of Mark's family (luckily excluding Mark) are keen walkers and I'm...not, but despite my worries, I really enjoyed myself and even went on a few walks (shock horror). It was a completely different trip to my holiday to Italy last year (it wasn't as warm for one thing!) but I wanted to see more of the UK this year and so far I am doing quite well, any ideas for where I should visit next?

Edinburgh, I love you... (PICTURE HEAVY)

Apologies for the delay since my last post, I spent the weekend staying with two of my best friends up in Edinburgh. I haven't been to Edinburgh since I was about ten so I couldn't remember much of it but as soon as I landed, I felt like I had come home.  I will definitely be visiting again sooner rather than later. The weather was gorgeous (apart from Sunday morning) and I took so many photos that I will have to split them into two posts, you still have the National Gallery and the world's most hilarious bagpiper to come!

Is there anything nicer than being greeted with tea, snacks, a stack of magazines and a gorgeous bedroom to sleep in? I think not!

Fettes really is the most beautiful school, it looked like a gothic Disneyland!

I mean check out those pillars! ;)

After a wander through Inverleith Park- filled with smiley faces and frolicking dogs, it was starting to feel like we were in a movie. The setting was stunning and I love the fact that you can see all the way down into Edinburgh town too...

Banks of daffodils are guaranteed to brighten up your day.

I had never heard of Stockbridge before but it was recently voted the coolet place to live inScotland which I can well believe. With 13 charity shops and plenty of cute delis and cafes, it was a fashion blogger's dream...

Peter's Yard was our choice for lunch- these cakes sounded amazing but I was just about able to resist their charms...

Mainly because of this amazing 'winter slaw'- who knew cabbage could be so delicious?!

This was the most amazing veggie pizza- I love anything with artichoke hearts on and this sourdough pizza was delicious.

Plus, anything with parma ham on is bound to be a winner in my book!

I wish I could have taken this giant brie home with me but it was already a struggle to get everything back on the plane. Which stupid person decided to take hand luggage only?

Cobbled streets look beautiful but can be hellish on your feet!

I think Fredericks may be my new favourite tea shop, it was beautifully decorated and so relaxed. I love places where they aren't constantly trying to rush you out of the door! Definitely another stop on the fashion blogger tour too ;)

Plus, they didn't get too annoyed when we were spelling out Edinburgh in sugar sachets- definitely a win in my book!

A nice glass of wine (or two) ...

Delicious homemade fajitas, BGT and A Knight's Tale were the perfect combination for an amazing  Saturday night. The best kind of friends are the ones who you can kick back in your pyjamas and watch rubbish TV with, amirite?

This was what I expected Edinburgh to look like everyday...

...but actually I couldn't get over how good the weather was, it made a beautiful city look even more gorgeous!

Have you ever visited Edinburgh?

The Jelly Roll Cafe, Tewkesbury... (PICTURE HEAVY)

On Sunday, Mark and I went to the Jelly Roll Cafe which is a small independent cafe in Tewkesbury and one of the nicest places to go for tea and cake or a light lunch/brunch. (They also do a jazz evening but we haven't made it to one of those yet!) We are both massive foodie fans and this is somewhere I know that the food will always be fantastic.  For anyone interested in paying a visit, you can find them at 17 Barton Street, Tewkesbury.

They always have such amazing specials too...
Trying to decide what to have off the menu- I tend to go for either the Welsh rarebit or the smoked mackerel pate as they are delicious and perfect for lunchtime.

I really like the decor too, the chairs are comfy and paintings from local artists adorn the walls

Mark looking rather excited...

Mark went for the chicken and bacon sandwich with barbecue sauce which came with a lovely side salad and the best coleslaw known to mankind!

In the end I went for the mackerel and horseradish pate which is served with massive doorsteps of granary bread. Heaven on a plate!

We also decided to go for another wander down by the river as it was such a nice day, despite being a little chilly (jeesh I sound like my parents!) Luckily my parka-esque coat proved perfect for keeping out the chills even though it's only being a thin layer. It really is the perfect coat for when you need to warm up quickly!

Coat: Miss Selfridge
This isn't the best photo in the world but it gives you a slightly better look at my jumper. I got given it by my friend Matilda as she didn't wear it any more, and despite my (well documented) love for stripes, I haven't really worn it. Luckily it was the ideal jumper for a slouchy Sunday and perfect for hiding my food baby, what more could you ask for?! Expect to see a lot more of this jumper though, I have some red skirts/trousers that would look awesome with it...

Have you ever visited the Jelly Roll Cafe? Which independent shops/ cafes can you recommend?

Courgette fairycakes...

There are a few things that you can expect to see on a regular basis over at Frills 'n' Spills, ridiculous poses are up there, bright colours are always popular, but food and recipes are always a given.  I got the Leon 'Family & Friends' cookbook for Christmas and this is the first recipe I have made from it and as ever, Leon have not let me down. Mark and I made these cakes last weekend and they are a lovely light treat to eat whenever you fancy something sweet. (I'm a poet and I know it...) Thanks to the courgette I think you could also count this as 1 of your 5 a day too* - bonus!

Roasted root vegetables with rosemary...

There's nothing I love more than roasted vegetables and the other night for tea, I wanted something to go with some rather tasteless half fat sausages (don't do it kids!) I used parsnips, potatoes, onions and aubergines but if you've got it, beetroot is really nice!

Goat's cheese, spinach and red onion stuffed aubergine and butternut squash...

This dinner came about after realising that we had a load of food in the fridge that needed using up. As it turned out, this was far too much food for the two of us and we had to save it for another meal but for 4 people, this would be perfect.

The best peanut butter cookie recipe...

When I was younger I had a real sweet tooth and liked nothing more than baking (and eating!) sweet cakes and treats although I usually prefer something more savoury these salty peanut butter cookies are the perfect mix of sweet and salty.  This recipe is a slightly adapted version of one from my beloved Cookiepedia- Americans sure know their cookies!

Portobello mushrooms with pesto and roasted vegetables...

Recently I have been trying to be a bit more healthy and eat food that is tasty without being full of rubbish. The problem is, in the week when I am at work, I just want something quick and easy which is where the problems can creep in... I picked up these mushrooms when I went to my first car boot from a local grower and they tasted amazing. I simply blobbed a bit of basil pesto (technical term there!) onto the top of the mushrooms and sprinkled a bit of cheese on the top (hey I said I was trying!) and put them under the grill for ten minutes with some chopped up mushrooms and cherry tomatoes until the cheese started to bubble.

How to make fish pie...

Now I know it isn't for everyone but fish pie has to be one of my favourite dinners, it is (relatively) good for you and is definitely high on my list of comfort foods.  I made this one last weekend and deliberately made a huge one, Mark and I had a massive portion each and we have another 2 dinners (at least) in the freezer...

Smokey bacon and prawn salad...

Inspired by Gem's oh so delicious looking spaghetti recipe, dinner tonight consisted of rocket, watercress and spinach salad topped with home-grown French and green beans, king prawns, smoked bacon, tomato pepper and mushrooms.

Delicious. Sometimes simple really is best.

Roasted peaches...

Now we finally have some hotter weather again, I felt it was time to share one of my favourite summer puddings: roasted peaches. I love peaches cooked on BBQs but these are a fab alternative which you can cook in the oven, indulgent and yet vaguely healthy because it contains fruit- that's my kind of pud!

Bakewell tart...

I am a big fan of the BBC Food website and when I saw this recipe featured last week, I knew what I was making this weekend! I have to say, I used shop bought pastry (boo hiss!) as I find it impossible to make [blame my warm hands!] but I bet it would taste even better if you made your own...

Homemade caramelised onion bread...

When Mark and I moved out, one of the things I was most excited about was having our own bread-maker. For about 7 years now my family have had homemade bread and it is always much nicer than shop bought. The problem is, when there is 2 of you, rather than 7, a loaf doesn't get eaten fast enough. Recently I have been all about tear and share bread which is SO easy to do and really makes even the most uninteresting meal seem special...

Leon cherry and almond cookies with chocolate chips...

There is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked goods wafting through the house, apart from not having to make them yourself. After a horrible few days of being ill and feeling sorry for myself, Mark decided to take decisive action and snap me out of my stupor by baking me some cookies.I love my Leon cookery books ( I also posted about the tracker bars I made) and Mark adapted this recipe from one in the Leon cakes and puddings book, which produced some wonderfully nutty cookies.

Green vegetable salad with crispy chorizo and pesto...

I adapted this dinner from a Waitrose recipe card that I picked up the other week. We have had some chorizo in the fridge for a while now and I was totally lacking inspiration about what to do with it so this recipe couldn't have come at a better time... [Recipe I think is too strong a word for this, it is basically a load of yummy ingredients thrown together, there's not much method involved...]

Serving suggestion: best eaten with a glass of rose and good company.
