Italian bread with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes recipe

I like food, and I love Italian food. I have been lucky enough to visit Italy a couple of times in the past on various exchanges and I fell in love with the gorgeous food. As I was wandering around Sainsbury's last weekend I caught sight of this bread mix and figured that for 49p I wouldn't be risking very much if I bought it. This afternoon then, instead of revising, I decided to bake some bread...

Seeing spots...

Jacket: Principles at Debenhams, top: H&M, skirt: Primark, belt: vintage at Topshop,  shoeboots:  Office,  necklace:  D.I.Y  from Laura Ashley, bag: Fiorelli
There are some days where clothes just seem to work together and yesterday was one of those days. I wanted something frivolous that was also fairly practical and so the pairing of a simple white t-shirt with this gorgeous spotted skirt seemed to be a match made in heaven for a day of revision. I also got the chance to wear the necklace which I got for my birthday off Cindy and Dan as the colours matched perfectly!

For some reason I look really unimpressed in all of these photos but I was actually in quite a good mood! It was an outfit that felt slightly more grown-up, due in part I think to the white t-shirt...although it's a basic for many people, I can honestly say I only wear it a couple of time a year! I guess though, that's the beauty of being able to create your own wardrobe, a few years ago I wore it almost constantly so it's interesting to see how my style has evolved :)

Sunglasses: Accessorize
Outtake of the day has to go to this rather windswept photo of me in my new sunglasses! I love  the cat-eye shapes and Paula wears it well but have always been a bit wary until I swooped down on these beauties in Accessorize. I usually treat myself to a new pair of sunglasses each year whether that is magazine freebies or Primark specials and the tortoiseshell frames and slight cat-eye meant that I was unable to put these beauties back on the shelf... They have been the perfect finishing touch to many an outfit since I bought them and I think they may have even overtaken this pair as my favourite!

Has your style evolved? Do you think it's worth spending money on accessories or do you rarely wear them?

#Team BBJ

I vowed not to make New Year's resolutions this year because I never manage to keep them, either because they are pointless or unattainable at this point in my life. I mean I'm all for shooting for the stars but you need to know how to get there too! Instead of struggling through on my own, this year I am joining Team BBJ: body, blog and job. The lovely Amy came up with this and I think it is such a good idea! Rather than failing to keep my resolutions, I will have the support of a growing list of lovely ladies who you can follow HERE

I am proud of what I managed to achieve in 2010. Although my health wasn't very good, I got consistently good grades and my lectures were really positive, which is super encouraging when dissertation deadlines and finals are looming! If I work just a little bit harder, I think I could get a first so that's my aim this academic year! I have challenged myself this year and as a result I think I know what I want to do in my career, which can only be a good thing, right? In myself though, I also feel a lot happier, I am willing to experiment with my style- I never thought I would be wearing a maxi skirt for one!- and I am a lot happier with the way I look. I think this is mainly through this blog so thank you guys <3

BLOG: This year I would love to expand my writing portfolio and also be more organised, especially with scheduling posts! There are obviously going to be times when I can't post as much as I would like so instead of stressing about it, I will have some back up posts for you guys. I also want to expand my writing portfolio and also try my hand at dress-making so if you guys have any tips or suggestions, they will be greatly welcomed!

BODY: I have been watching what I eat recently and going to the gym more so I don't want to lose any weight but just tone up my arms and make sure that I am as active as possible. In addition to this, I am determined to only wear clothes and outfits that make me feel a little 'fizzy'. Now I don't mean ready to pop ;) but rather clothes that make me smile and feel great and this starts with wearing underwear that fits. Now this may sound odd but apparently 465% of women wear the wrong size bra (I may have exaggerated slightly here...) and I'm not going to be one of them... Never have basics been so luxurious...
The sale is to DIE FOR
I also got this dress with some of my Christmas money and it fits the above criteria perfectly. It fits like a glove, has a swooshy skirt, nipped in waist and a fab print in gorgeous colours. What more can a girl ask for? They also have this print on a gorgeous jumpsuit which I would LOVE to see Danni or Lil rocking... if only my legs went up to my armpits!

I wore it with my nude shoes which I have had for years and can't bear to replace as they are the perfect nude colour for my pale [and interesting] skin and a bag I bought at the Clothes Show. This bag is surprisingly roomy and I manage to cart around all of my junk in it too- WIN!

Catalogue pose FTW!
I really don't know what was happening with my hair, it just WOULD NOT behave and looked like a bad wig in the majority of the photos we took...

I was really disappointed as how I felt in this dress just didn't come across in the photos. I don't know why it didn't photograph well but I'm sure I'll be wearing it again soon as it's my favourite dress at the moment! This is no mean feat as I have LOTS of dresses to choose from in my ever expanding wardrobe. Speaking of which, I am having a clear out and have started to list some of the pieces here, so if you're looking for a bargain then why not have a rummage and help a fellow blogger?!

The perfume Danni mentioned in her vlog is this one; Chloe by Chloe and it is gorgeous!
JOB: I have been applying to graduate schemes but trying to focus my search to ones I really want, rather than just applying to them willy nilly... hopefully this tactic will pay off! Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions too :) I have also been prepping for a couple of tests and interviews I have in the next month or so, so please keep your fingers crossed for me! :) For the time being though, it's straight back to revision before my test tomorrow...

Have you made any resolutions this year? What's your favourite outfit?

WHAT I WORE- Summer lovin'

For those of you who don't know, I am the Editorial Assistant at British Style Bloggers and we have just launched a new feature called 'What I wore'. We are asking YOU to submit an outfit to either our Facebook page or our Twitter that represents Summer Lovin' for you. Please get involved, it would mean such a lot to me and the rest of the British Style Bloggers team. You can see mine and Danni's submissions below.

Festival dressing in a nutshell, Danni has got summer dressing down to a T!

To me, this has summer written all over it, shorts, a hat, a picnic in the park with my lovely boyfriend, taken as a break from revision...ah summer!

So get on over to British Style Bloggers and get involved!
GOOD LUCK!

8 cakes, is that excessive?!

After a stressful couple of days travelling and networking, it was lovely to get back home and relax... well attempt to! I have 2 days (!) until my first exam and a week until I am done, believe me I am counting them down :S I really hate exams and find them so stressful- I think I worry far too much though so I am trying to stay upbeat :) As part of my revision today, two of my friends came round (hello Laura and George!) so we could watch 'Ben-Hur'
For anyone who hasn't already seen it, I thoroughly recommend this film. It is truly deserving of the 'epic' epithet and Charlton Heston is brilliant as the troubled Ben Hur. The film won 11 Oscars and is best known for the infamous 'chariot race'. It may be 3 and a half hours long but it is definitely one of the best films I have seen in a long time.
As other students may be aware, revision/ work of any kind makes you hungry and Danni and I are no exception to this rule. We decided to make some summery cakes to give us a welcome break from studying and to provide us with some yummy snacks at the same time :) We doubled up this recipe from the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook and just added our own spin to the mixture to create 3 unique flavours.
(We used two thirds of the mixture for each flavour which made 36 cupcakes in total)
First up... CHOCOLATE! I had some chocolate left over from when I made rice krispie cakes a while back which we grated and added some vanilla essence to.
Freckly cakes! :D
Peach and vanilla is also a classic combination and our cakes were perfectly moist and airy :)
Our ever growing cake tower :D
Last but not least, glace cherries and sultanas, made that little bit better with the addition of Disaronno Amaretto ;)
NOM
A tower of cupcakes, best enjoyed with lovely housemates and the football on the telly...
How do you rate England's chances in the World Cup? Have you tried any new recipes recently?

American Dining: An Antidote to Everything

Aaaaah, an evening with Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, milkshakes and Cosmo's....could we really ask for anything more? Well, add in a quick stop off at the pub and you've got the perfect way to wind down after revision tensions. Yes, last night we ended up paying Dockers another visit and used it as an excuse to get glammed up after weeks of slobbing about (at least on my part) in slouchy stuff.

I think my top is actually a dress but on me that would just be plain inappropriate...thank-you skinny jeans!

So we made our way to Dockers and this time sampled their evening menu of American classics. I'd love to say that we savoured every delicious bite, but we were so unbelievably hungry when the food came that not a morsel remained after about five minutes. It really was lovely though; satisfying in a way that only greasy, finger-licking American food can be. Altogether we ordered burgers, chilli dogs, milkshakes and cookie sandwiches galore, but the highlight was definitely the cocktails (perhaps second to the Jukebox - there's something oddly enchanting about those things)...

Both me and Maria went to the diner to spend some time with our future house-mates and after days of gradually increasing isolation and insanity from work, it was wonderful to eat, drink and be merry together. And merry we were. I'm not even referring to alcoholic induced sillyness here, I think the last few weeks of holing ourselves away with only authors and automated library e-mails to keep us company, we were in shock at sudden human contact. And so things got a little comic...

Why Danni, just why?!

Only we could find fruit amusing...half eaten fruit at that. The diner went from being super-packed to super-quiet and we decided (after finally noticing fading lights and angry glares) that it was time to head off. Rather than waste time waiting for the bus in the pouring rain (well, the torrent had stopped by then but the pavements, and our shoes, were sodden) we decided it was Pimms O' clock and sought out one of Leamington's pubs where we chatted away to the sound of open mic night whilst sipping Pimms as quintessentially as possible...

Hmm, perhaps not as prim and proper as Mr. Pimms (not even sure if there is a Mr. Pimm's but go with me here!) would like but we certainly enjoyed at least pretending it was summer, even if the weather was telling us otherwise. It was my first ever taste of Pimms and I have to say it was lovely; very sweet, and definitely more suited to sipping outside on a warm hazy evening, but nevertheless a success!
Pimms = Grins !

Looking back, last-night was a simple affair. Just burgers and bars to put it bluntly. But it certainly put a smile on all our faces, and made us realise just how good the simple life is. Paris Hilton, eat your heart out.
