New Look A/W press day (PICTURE HEAVY)

Last week I went to my very first press day to see the New Look A/W 2011 collection and I have to say now choosing photos for this post was extremely difficult. I saw some really lovely things and I am pretty sure that all of my money will be going into the pockets of New Look.

This was in the kid's section but I'm sure I could squeeze into it...right?

The building was absolutely gorgeous and showed off the clothes perfectly. There was a gorgeous mix of jewel colours, embellishment and prints. The accessories were lovely, especially all of the different ol prints. The styling of the pieces was spot on and really showed off the pieces to their full potential.

Do you like the pieces in this collection? How would you style it up?

What's in my make-up bag? Make-up for pale skin :)

I think it's the fact that I am so nosy but I love seeing what is in other people's bags. Harriet, Leia and Paula showed us their make-up essentials and I am going to attempt to do the same. I wrote a post about my favourite lipsticks a while ago and although I have since added to my collection, I am going to focus on my basics which I use almost daily to give me a natural look (which every girl knows takes a lot of make-up! :P)

As I have very pale skin, I often find it difficult to find foundation and concealer that doesn't make me look orange, has anyone tried the Dainty Doll range by Nicola Roberts? I want to try it but it's quite expensive if it isn't any good!

L- Maybelline Super Stay 24hr concealer in shade Light/Beige Clair 2 R- L'Oreal Infallible concealer in shade 01 Vanille.
As I have skin that is prone to spots, a good concealer is a must! Currently I am favouring L'Oreal Infallible and Maybelline Super Stay 24hr Concealer. Both of these give good coverage and blend well, I would say that I prefer the Maybelline at the moment, merely because it doesn't feel too heavy

L- Barbara Daly Soft Focus illuminator R- L'Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Primer

I bought the L'Oreal primer when it was slightly cheaper in Boots and cannot recommend it enough! A tiny amount leaves my skin velvety and keeps my make-up looking flawless even after a night out. I normally mix the illuminator with some foundation to give a lighter dewy glow or dot it along my cheekbones as a highlighter.

L- Maybelline Dream Creamy foundation in 04 light porcelain R- Max Factor Second Skin foundation in 040 Creamy Ivory.
I use the Maybelline foundation if I am feeling more self-conscious about my skin as it gives  slightly heavier coverage. My Max Factor foundation is so light and creamy and covers any redness of my skin whilst giving  light dewy coverage.

Clockwise from left: Mac Summer Rose blusher, Topshop blush from palette and Benefit Thrrrob blusher
I tend to choose my blusher dependent on the outfit I am wearing, for example if I am wearing red, I will choose Thrrrob as it is a pinky red, whereas the Mac blusher is more purpley in tone. The Topshop blush has to be applied very lightly as it is very pigmented!

From top: Models Own volumising big brush mascara in black, Maybelline The One by One Volum'Express mascara, Rimmel Professional Eyebrow pencil in 001 Dark Brown and No. 7 Amazing Eyes Liner.
I first used an eyebrow pencil after I had my eyebrows waxed and the woman took off 80% of the hair. I totally freaked out and ran to Boots to find a pencil that I could use until they grew back. Luckily they did but I still use this to brush through my eyebrows and fill in any gaps. I am always amazed at how much eyebrows can change the shape of your face and this pencil helps to keep them groomed. The liquid eyeliner is a fairly new purchase, thanks to Boots No. 7 vouchers and a little encouragement from Danni. I haven't quite mastered the Cleopatra flick  yet but I am getting there!

From top: Max Factor Lipfinity lasting lip tint in shade 04, Lipcote, Burt's Bee Pomegranate lip balm and Cherry Carmex.
The Max Factor lip pen is the perfect 'your lips but better' shade for me and the felt tip applicator makes applying it a doddle. Lipcote is indispensable if you want to wear lipstick without it rubbing off as soon as you eat or drink something and Carmex and Burt's Bees have been the saviours of my lips this winter... I blame Laura personally! ;)

I also keep a mini hairbrush (despite only brushing my hair once every blue moon!) hair bobbles, kirby grips and cotton buds (to correct those pesky eyeliner mistakes!) inside my rather gorgeous Celia Birtwell case. You should know by now that I am a sucker for anything shiny with floral print!

What's in your make-up bag? Any products you can't live without?

Guess what, I'm not a robot...

I love when you find a bargain in a charity shop, it can really make my day and the fact that the money is going to a good cause makes me feel less guilty about spending it! I spotted this cute robot t-shirt hidden amongst some rather questionable jumpers, proof that having a rummage is always a good idea!

Top: New Look via charity shop, skirt: Dorothy Perkins, blazer: Tesco, socks: Marks and Spencers, shoeboots: Next, bag: c/o Fiona and Siren

I love all of the different robots, aren't they just gorgeous?! I felt quite a lot like a schoolgirl in this outfit, I think it was the grey blazer/sock combo?

I won this bag in a giveaway over at Fiona's wonderful blog and whilst it is not something I would ever choose for myself, I absolutely love it! It makes me feel a bit cooler (definitely no bad thing!) and adds a "delightfully tacky" element to my outfits. I really love some of the stuff on Siren's website, this gorgeous purple suede bag WILL be mine! :)

Also seen here with an outfit that I really loved but didn't photograph well; a gorgeous vintage green 'wiggle' dress and mulberry tights, leaving me looking like a cross between Joan Holloway and Laura! Not a bad combination AT.ALL.

Dress: vintage, tights: John Lewis, coat: c/o Tesco, shoes: Tesco, bag: New Look, belt: Primark

Back to the grind of essay and dissertation writing...luckily I have Danni and Lisa's birthdays to look forward to in the next few days :D I need to put on my dancing shoes and go and party! :D

Have you found any bargains recently?

P.S. Keep a look out for some exciting new features, coming soon! :D

A very English Style...

After reading Kristabel's post about some of the lovely presents she got for Christmas, I promised myself that I would treat myself to one book I have had my eye on for quite some time; Luella's guide to English Style. I had gazed at it longingly when I was searching for Christmas presents for other people but no-one picked up on my (not so subtle!) hints. Finally then I bought it here, whilst I was browsing Amazon for DVDs- I promise it's for my dissertation! Now Luella is was probably my favourite designer brand and I think this is because of the dreamy silhouettes and bright pops of colour and pattern- basically my ideal wardrobe
Dress: Luella, blouse: Miss Selfridge from charity shop, shoes: New Look
Now I am lucky enough to own a genuine piece of Luella, just before the label folded and the website was taken down, I was having a sneaky browse (does anyone else do 'dream shopping'?!) and clicked on the link to the 'Rebecca' dress. The only one left was in my size and before I knew it some Luella loveliness was winging it's way towards me... I have only worn it a couple of times, one was to a student night (what WAS I thinking?!!!) but it gives me the fizzy feeling that I think is so important with clothes.  But this post is not just an ode to Luella, but rather to my new coat, part of the bloggers challenge with Tesco. I love the belted waist and the buttons are so cute! It reminded me of the book as there is something quintessentially English about a brown check, do you agree?

I decided to choose something that I wouldn't normally choose myself and saw this beauty on the websiteIt is gorgeously warm and fits like a dream. The one quibble I have is the fastening at the top can make me look ridiculously busty if I have a lot of layers on underneath so watch out for that!
Cardigan: Tesco, top: Gap, skirt; Primark (about 3 years ago!), belt: Primark, tights: Sainsbury's, shoes: Kurt Geiger.
I first put together this outfit in the summer but of course it was far too warm to wear it then so the weather today was just perfect. I felt with the topknot (trying to keep my hair out of my eyes!) it was an outfit worthy of Luella and it was an outfit that put a spring in my step; a necessity as I didn't get the graduate scheme that I really wanted :( I guess I just have to keep positive and move on to the next one now!

Do you have a favourite designer? What outfits do you wear to perk yourself up?

Sanctuary...

After reading Jazz's lovely post about her bedroom, I have been wanting to post about my room... there was only one problem though, it was at uni and I was at home. Luckily I have been back at uni for about a week now and my room has stayed tidy, long enough for me to take some photos ;)

We live in a gorgeous old house which has such high ceilings that the rooms seem really big and airy. I love having my own room, and really miss it when I am back home in the holidays.. one of the perils of a big family I suppose!

The all important wardrobes! Yes, that is wardrobes, plural, the landlord must have known how much stuff I have as there is SO much storage space to keep all of my clothes in/bags on...

... as well as space for my books, DVDs and trinkets! (I also have photos of my family and friends on every available surface but they didn't want to feature on the blog) I really had to limit the books which I brought to uni so the majority of these are books for my course... why else would I have a Latin dictionary and grammar reference book? :P

My favourite part of the room though is my non-functioning fireplace. I think it's absolutely adorable and it currently houses my pint glass vase with some flowers in, which you may remember from last year. I love flowers and as I can't afford real ones, these bright blooms from Wilko will have to do!

I am a bit of a hoarder and keep things that are important to me pinned to one of the 3 (!) pin boards I have around my room. It brightens up the room a bit and it makes me smile when I remember all of the fab things I managed to do last year...

A funny poster!

The desk where all the blogging work happens! Normally I have piles of paper everywhere but as it's only the beginning of term, it's still quite tidy :P You can see Edd the duck, my cuddly toy from when I was a baby on the top of my bed, I am still just a big kid! :)

And last but not least, can you tell I like Wall-E?! I told you I was a big kid! :P My room is a complete mish-mash of stuff that I have accumulated across the years but I think it reflects my love of colour, prints, books and pretty things!

What does your room look like? Are you a hoarder like me?
