Dressing like a 5 year old...

Whenever I wear this dress, I am always accused of dressing like a 5 year old and the fact that I wore similar pinafores when I was five (and the fact I look about 12) does make it difficult to disagree. Recently I have been obsessed with layers and this Autumn inspired outfit has been one of my favourites.

Dress: River Island, top: H&M, jacket: H&M, belt: vintage, tights: Primark, shoes: Marks & Spencer
This top is one of those which only works when it is layered under something- the fit is downright odd, especially round the hem, but I love the fluted sleeves and they are wonderfully swooshy!

Wearing some gorgeous Crown and Glory bobby pins. I have written before about how much I love Crown & Glory and these bobby pins are so easy to wear. I never know what to do with my hair but these are understated enough to wear every day and add enough interest without being overpowering.

Finished off with a pair of my most practical shoes- I think I need to invest in some more brogues for this Autumn!

How do you jazz up your hair? Where do you buy brogues from?

Oxblood and faux fur...

The title of this blog post sounds much more violent than the reality! It's amazing how much your style changes in a year or two and looking back to the last time I wore this fake fur on the blog was really quite a shock. I originally bought this coat off Ebay as I wanted a fake fur but was loath to pay too much money, especially as I knew I wouldn't wear it that often. When this one arrived, although I loved it, it wasn't the most flattering so it got pushed to the back of the wardrobe, languishing, unloved on a hanger. Luckily, when I was considering buying a fur gilet to layer up this year, I remembered that I had this coat and figured that as I rarely wore it, chopping off the sleeves couldn't do much harm!

Fur gilet:  DIY from Dorothy Perkins fake fur, blouse: New Look, cardigan: Marks & Spencer, jeans: Miss Selfridge,  glittery brogues: Marks & Spencer
It's still not very flattering but I don't know what to change to make it more wearable, maybe trim the shoulders down?

I wanted an outfit that was cosy but still looked like I had made an effort and although I look really miserable in these photos, I loved the metallic tones with the berry jeans...

I bought this cardigan in the sale at good old M&S at the same time I bought this skirt and these shoes and this is the first time it has debuted on the blog! I loved the gold leaf effect that is sprayed (?) all over and considering that it it is cropped and full of holes, it is surprisingly warm!

Plus it matched my glittery brogues perfectly, what more could you ask for? This combination will definitely be making a reappearance at a sequin Monday at some point!

SWOOOOOSH!
Outtake of the day: me perfecting my hair model pose, am I really worth it?!

What would you do to make the jacket more wearable? Do you like things to match?

Sparkly heels...

There are certain shoes that just demand attention, they don't whisper, they SHOUT and these Schuh beauties are such a pair. The lovely Fleur from Most Wanted at Voucher Codes asked if I wanted get involved in their latest campaign; Most Wanted Seasonal Staples which "aims to take a key season trend and enlist fashion experts to help road test the look.  Ultimately we hope this will help to unearth the best high street version of the look" with the look being those ubiquitous Miu Miu sparkly booties. I leapt at the chance, you all know how much I like anything sparkly

Unfortunately when they arrived they were far too small, I ordered a 7 (my usual size) and could barely fit my feet into the shoes. Luckily Fleur and Schuh were fantastic and managed to send out another pair in the next size up.

As you can see, these are very high shoes, so high infact that I haven't dared to wear them further than 100m from the house yet. From just walking around inside though, these shoes feel very solid courtesy of the chunky heel. I  felt like a baby giraffe, wobbling around, trying to get my bearings  because they are just so high...

Unless you are used to wearing high high heels I would really advise against wearing these to anything you may need to walk to/from. However, I rarely wear heels, especially high ones so I am a complete novice!

Despite this though, I love them, the black suede means that they should be 'practical' but the sparkles make them irresistible. My inner magpie is crowing in triumph at the SHINY SEQUINS and I am wearing them around the house in the hope that I will (one day) be able to walk in heels!

I mean just LOOK! Apparently if you hairspray the glitter it stops it shedding so much (something I am yet to try) although it does lose some of the colour off the glitter. I ill definitely be doing this as I want my shoes to be glittery, not my carpet... I am so grateful for being able to be involved in something like this, I love sparkly shoes and I would recommend these shoes, just make sure you practice walking in them before you leave the house! If you fancy grabbing yourself this pair or another pair of Schuh beauties then head over to their discount page to bag yourself a bargain!

Would you wear sparkly shoes? Can you walk in heels?

Sequin Mondays...

I first heard about #sequinmonday from the lovely Susie and it was definitely the inspiration behind this outfit. For many people, Monday is the signifier of a new week, about about as far from sparkly as you could get but for me, Monday was my day off before I started my latest project... I am now working as a marketing intern for The Roses Theatre and I couldn't be more excited! These photos celebrate the last of my Mondays off and (hopefully) the start of a shiny future...

Top: Principles from Debenhams, jeans: Topshop, cardigan: stolen from my mum,  necklace: Primark , sparkly brogues: Limited Collection at Marks & Spencer.
When it comes to styling up jeans, there is one name that always pops into my head. Jen writes over at 'A Little Bird Told Me' and always looks absolutely impeccable in her denim based outfits. In fact, I always think of these as my Jen jeans [I'm not creepy I promise] and look to her blog for some sartorial inspiration when I wear them...

I am a little disappointed with how these photos came out if I'm honest, I really loved this outfit with it's pop of colour but it looks rather lacklustre in these photos :(

I bought this necklace after spying MJ in a similar one.. I think it is clear to see that I was heavily inspired by other bloggers with this outfit...

A subtle sparkle to lift a neutral cardigan...

... and some sparkly brogues made for an outfit which I felt was worthy of #sequinmonday!

How do you lift your spirits? Which bloggers inspire you?

Little red dress...

I think Zara's bodycon, fit and flare dresses became ubiquitous on bloggers a while ago and I can totally see why! The material is sturdy enough to keep you sucked in in all the right places but skims neatly over all of those lumps and bumps you would rather not draw attention to.

Dress:Zara, belt: New Look, tights: Primark, brogues: Primark, leather jacket: New Look, hat: River Island
The shape of this dress immediately made me think of Sarah [a girl after my own heart with her overflowing wardrobe of dresses!] especially with the addition of sleeves! The swooshy skirt was just an added bonus!

In an attempt to tone down the girlishness of the dress, I paired it with my trusty opaques and brogues. I was never a fan of brogues but had to buy some for work and I like the way they add something a bit different to an outfit. With the combination of the brogues, the bright red of the dress and the leather jacket, I felt super confident and ready to take on anyone...

Red is definitely a colour that I am drawn to, I love the contrast with my dark hair and pale skin and it always makes me feel super confident. It is one of those shades that forces you to walk a little taller and meet everyone's eye, ideal for when you need a bit of a boost or pushing out of your comfort zone!

Although I have never been a fan of leopard print, this belt has helped to change my mind, I love adding it to plainer outfits for a bit of excitement.

I guess the same could be said for this hat! I loved it when I wore it to play Poohsticks and it is guaranteed to be a conversation starter whenever I wear it... not bad for an impulse buy from River Island!

What colour always makes you feel confident? How do you jazz up plainer outfits?

P.S. The gorgeous Amy has featured me HERE to celebrate her lovely blog's second birthday, stop by and say hello!

Electric blue...

A dress this pretty was almost guaranteed to find it's way into my wardrobe. I loved it at full price and then it was reduced down to about £10 and somehow managed to land on my shopping basket. Exmouth really was the holiday of dresses ( I think I picked up about 5 when I was there) and this has to be one of the prettiest. Electric blue is a colour that never fails to cheer me up and several people commented on how pretty the dress was, it doesn't get much better than that for a feel-good outfit!

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, shoes: Dorothy Perkins, bag: vintage from the Clothes Show
It was worn for a day of sightseeing and tea-shopping in Topsham and was perfect for adding a little colour to a grey and gloomy day...

The detailing is absolutely fantastic although I keep bending the sequins with the strap of my bag, I'm hoping it won't cause too much personal damage though!

This was just huge and I'm not sure what it was used for, it is obviously something to do with the sea as it was right by the harbour but I can't work it out... any ideas?

The harbour also made the perfect backdrop for a few more silly poses although I did get some funny looks from the bus driver trying to reverse behind me, he must have thought I was crazy! Apologies for the fluffy hair, it was newly washed and sea-breezes were playing havoc with it...

New Look A/W press day (PICTURE HEAVY)

Last week I went to my very first press day to see the New Look A/W 2011 collection and I have to say now choosing photos for this post was extremely difficult. I saw some really lovely things and I am pretty sure that all of my money will be going into the pockets of New Look.

This was in the kid's section but I'm sure I could squeeze into it...right?

The building was absolutely gorgeous and showed off the clothes perfectly. There was a gorgeous mix of jewel colours, embellishment and prints. The accessories were lovely, especially all of the different ol prints. The styling of the pieces was spot on and really showed off the pieces to their full potential.

Do you like the pieces in this collection? How would you style it up?
