'Miles for Macmillan'...

Macmillan Centre at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London

Just a quick post today, I don't usually reproduce press releases but this one really caught my eye and as a cause close to my heart, I really wanted to share. 'Miles for Macmillan', is an initiative between Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support which is encouraging people to get out there and make time for what matters to them, by gathering their family and children for a lovely day out and rediscovering the joy of walking together, all while raising money to help support the two million people living with and beyond cancer in the UK.

There are nine walks happening in August and September, offering three and eight mile routes in countryside locations across the UK so everyone regardless of age and ability can take part. If you can make it to a walk, please do, this is a really fantastic cause and anything that encourages people to get outside and help to raise money for a fantastic charity can only be a good thing, right?! Mark and I are hoping to be able to go to the walk at Hampton Court Castle but I am just waiting to hear if we will be free this Sunday.

Want to get involved?

* Tweet #milesformacmillan and your local route location to find out who will be on the same walk as you so that you can buddy up ahead of the walks

* Tweet an image of your most scenic spot and why you love it so much with the hashtag #milesformacmillan. The picture above is taken halfway up Bredon Hill, a walk my family and I do every Easter and a really beautiful spot. It is one of the most peaceful places in the world and the perfect place to escape to, I really am lucky to live in such a lovely place.

Tewkesbury trips and tweed...

For the first time in ages, Mark and I didn't have anything planned for this weekend so we decided to take a trip into Tewkesbury and enjoy the sunshine. If you have never been to Tewkesbury, it is definitely worth visiting for the stunning buildings, and dozens of charity shops if nothing else! I love exploring 'familiar' places and nothing beats being a tourist in your own city... I bought this dress the last time I came to Tewkesbury from one of my favourite charity shops and it is one of my favourite things to wear thanks to the swooshy skirt and gorgeous heavy tweed.

Dress: Tu at Sainsburys via charity shop, blouse: New Look,  belt: from dress, shoes: Betty London flat shoes c/o Spartoo
As it is still freezing outside I have been layering it up with my sheer shirts and I think the combination of the gorgeous gold/brown tweed with the cream shirt is fab as the gold buttons co-ordinate perfectly- you know how much I love being matchy matchy! ;) I had to feature my new favourite ring too- I never had anything personalised when I was younger so whenever I see anything with my name or initials on, I snap it up immediately!

These shoes are the latest addition to my wardrobe from Spartoo and like my other Betty London flats, they are ridiculously comfy.I also love the little bow on them, I think all the best shoes have bows on them!

A bit of an outtake here thanks to the huge gust of wind but I love how well my bag co-ordinates with the barge behind me!

Running parallel to the high street in Tewkesbury you can walk along by the river and it really is beautiful, especially on a sunny day. Unfortunately it is flooded at the moment as the river has burst its banks again, but luckily the path was high enough for us not to get our feet wet!

Healings Mill was built in 1865 and spent over 140 years as a flour mill before it closed in November 2006
The mill has been derelict since its closure in 2006 and I have never been inside but there are some stunning images of the inside here and here

This part here is usually a wooden jetty but as you can see, that has long disappeared under the flood water! I loved having a wander around the back streets and alleys of Tewkesbury and I plan to visit lots more towns and cities in the UK this year as I am not going to Italy again *sob*

Have you ever been to Tewkesbury? Which UK towns or cities do you recommend visiting?
P.S. This post was done in collaboration with Spartoo

"Look at you with your red shoes!"

Thank you Mr. Drunk Man, I hadn't noticed what I was wearing until you said! This dress is my favourite thing to wear at the moment, I picked it up for £1 (!) off our clothes rail at my work's summer BBQ and I couldn't be happier.   I have always wanted to try a clothes swap and this really worked as loads of people brought in clothes for me and my colleague Matilda, to sell and we managed to raise £20 for  our nominated charity (not bad considering everything was £1!)

Dress: Isabella Oliver (clothes swap), blazer: New Look, belt: vintage, shoes: Accessorize
I love the length and monochrome stripes will always look good, I can't wait to layer it up this autumn. I was very grateful of the little sleeves on this too, perfect for covering my slightly sunburnt shoulders (courtesy of the aforementioned BBQ) and much more professional too...

This dress is pretty similar, and it's in the sale!
A slightly better and less strobey look at the stripes, they made me feel very French, I felt like I should be carrying a string of onions around with me! Also wearing my current favourite combination of accessories...

A slight outtake but a better look at my make up and hair, I'm still loving this red lipstain, especially now the weather has gone gloomy again!

Have you ever tried a clothes swap? What are your favourite accessories?

Burnt orange...

Burnt orange is not really a colour I associate with summer, for me it always conjures up images of log fires and crunchy leaves (what can I say, I'm an Autumn girl at heart!) but this cropped jacket has been perfect for covering up at work recently. I last wore this skirt here and I can't believe how time has flown, so many things have changed since that post!

Jacket:H&M, top: Reiss via charity shop, belt: Primark, skirt: Laura Ashley, shoes: ASDA
The shape and length of this skirt is perfect for work, especially when its warm outside. These photos were taken around 5.45am on Wednesday morning and the temperature went to a rather muggy 23 °C so I was glad of my bare legs and sleeveless blouse!

I picked this Reiss top up in a local charity shop as I loved the blush pink colour and the ruffles down the front but I was never sure what to wear it. The best part though was the fact it was the grand total of £5! It is fairly long in the body but the colour matched perfectly with this skirt and the neckline was high enough to be 'office appropriate'. I love the fact that it is lined as well, so many shops don't do this and I really wish they would!

Quite by accident, I had bought this skinny belt in a pack of three from Primark recently (for 50p!) and the orange matched perfectly, never a given, especially if you try and match colours between shops!

What do you wear to work when it is warm? Do you associate particular colours with seasons?

Electric blue...

A dress this pretty was almost guaranteed to find it's way into my wardrobe. I loved it at full price and then it was reduced down to about £10 and somehow managed to land on my shopping basket. Exmouth really was the holiday of dresses ( I think I picked up about 5 when I was there) and this has to be one of the prettiest. Electric blue is a colour that never fails to cheer me up and several people commented on how pretty the dress was, it doesn't get much better than that for a feel-good outfit!

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, shoes: Dorothy Perkins, bag: vintage from the Clothes Show
It was worn for a day of sightseeing and tea-shopping in Topsham and was perfect for adding a little colour to a grey and gloomy day...

The detailing is absolutely fantastic although I keep bending the sequins with the strap of my bag, I'm hoping it won't cause too much personal damage though!

This was just huge and I'm not sure what it was used for, it is obviously something to do with the sea as it was right by the harbour but I can't work it out... any ideas?

The harbour also made the perfect backdrop for a few more silly poses although I did get some funny looks from the bus driver trying to reverse behind me, he must have thought I was crazy! Apologies for the fluffy hair, it was newly washed and sea-breezes were playing havoc with it...

What colour is an instant mood lifter? What's your favourite dress?

Diabetes week- lets talk diabetes

Diabetes is a topic that is very close to my heart. As you may know I was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 14 years ago and it was probably the most difficult thing my family and I have had to go through. I have had some horrific ups and downs and at times it has felt like I was the only person suffering with this. Luckily, despite the lack of information and advice given to us by some of the doctors and nurses, Diabetes UK stepped in with their magazine Balance. I don't receive it any more but it helped me and my mum through some very difficult times and I will always remember the time I won £5 on the crossword (I was nine at the time!) So why am I bringing this up now you may ask? It is diabetes week and Diabetes UK are aiming to raise awareness and to get people talking about diabetes:

I know that I found it very difficult to talk to people about my diabetes and even if I hid it away that it would go away. It really impacted on my confidence when I was younger and this is why I think things like this are so important. I am lucky enough to have amazing family and friends that have been there to support me through it but not everyone is that lucky. If you know that other people are going through the same thing then you won't feel so alone which can only be a good thing, right? To raise some money, I am planning to sell all of the clothes that I don't wear and split the money between Diabetes UK and the PSP Support Network, another organisation close to my heart. I don't want to preach, I am not going to try and guilt trip you into donating money (although obviously that would be nice!) but rather to talk to people, do a little research and celebrate Diabetes Week with me!

Do you know anyone with diabetes?

P.S. If you have any questions then I will be more than happy to answer them !
