An Aussome Night!

What starts with champagne and ends in cocktails? An Aussie bloggers event of course!!

Words just can't describe the whirlwind that was yesterday; and a fantastic whirlwind it was too. After a worryingly jerky coach journey [seriously, we were writing our obituaries] me and Maria arrived in London once again for Aussie's Take the Heat Bonfire Night event. Now, come November the 5th, I'm normally prepping myself for a chilly night of fireworks, a runny nose, and a cheeky cone of chips from a pretty questionable food van. What I got this year though was a champagne fuelled London Eye flight, a trip over to Covent garden [in a Hummer limo nonetheless] and all the cocktails and canapes I could manage at the wonderful Jewel Bar.

Heaven.

Eye Spy

Bubbly!
We began with our flight on the Eye where we were greeted by lovely members of staff who let us loose on some champagne and canapes. They were good, and I mean goood. So nice in fact that we almost forgot we were on the Eye. Almost. London looked far too pretty to be ignored - it was so good to have the chance to look at the city, and I mean really look. Usually I've got my head stuck in a tube map or clothes rail so it was nice to truly appreciate how beautiful London is....and boy is it breathtaking!

After lots of photos and a bit of mingling we then followed Emma on what we presumed was going to be a pretty cold [and painful for Maria's poor feet!] walk to Covent Garden. Little did we know we'd be getting a lift in a Hummer limo ....yep. I actually squealed with excitement.

Excited? I think so!

We laughed, we chatted and of course, we tweeted and before we knew it we'd arrived at Jewel Bar. The staff were wonderful and brought us a glass of champagne each to toast the evening...

as well as endless cocktails...
Lil and Maria favoured the French Martini...ooh la la!

The peach mojito was my personal fave...yum.

and of course, the bloggers favourite; cupcakes!
Kristabel and Fiona sharing a cupcake moment!

The drinks were fab, the food delicious and the location stunning. But what made the night so fun was the wonderful company. I have to say I was more than a little nervous to be in a room with so many fantastic bloggers - I'd be lying if I didn't feel a little starstruck seeing so many of my favourite reads! Yet they couldn't have been friendlier, and everyone looked gorgeous. It's all too easy in the blogosphere to forget that there are real people behind those wonderful musings; there's only so much that blogspot can tell you. At events like these though it's great to get to know the blogger behind the dashboard, let go, and have fun!

I got to meet the lovely Jazz

Maria mingles with Jazz and Fiona

A special mention also to Hayley who won the Take the Heat challenge with her beautiful up-do! I don't have a picture sadly, but make sure you check her blog for more on the evening.

So finally, I'd just like to say a massive thank you to all of the wonderful Aussie team, as well as the beautiful bloggers we met for making Bonfire night so special - what a Yummy evening indeed!

As  Danni has said, it was a really wonderful evening and it was so lovely to meet so many amazing bloggers . Apologies if I came over as completely starstruck, it was like meeting celebrities! Many many thanks go to Aussie for organising SUCH an amazing night, I don't know of anyone who puts so much thought and consideration into blogger events AND produces such great haircare ;) I went on the Eye fairly recently but London by night is something else! Our invitation said "Hot hair and high heels" so I went all out! Unusually for me, I was wearing black and cream accessorized with a red belt and patent red heels which were very high and soon became quite uncomfortable!

The stairs (!) in our hotel room provided the perfect place to take photos :) I added some rollers to my hair to give it a bit of oomph (technical term) at the roots and then used some smaller rollers to ensure that my curls were even and then used the Aussie hairspray to fix it all in place. If you hate the smell of hairspray as much as I do, definitely try the 'Hi Hold + Hi Shine' hairspray- it smells gorgeous AND makes your hair looks super shiny...win win!

A rare photo of me and Danni! She was so busy snapping photos of the gorgeous view that we forgot to get a photo of the two of us... Whenever flash is used on a camera, I always close my eyes and Friday was no exception :P

Some very sophisticated bloggers in Covent Garden ;)

Home sweet home...
After an amazing party, Hayley, Danni and I caught the tube home and collapsed in our hotel room for some much needed rest (my poor poor feet!) and a lovely girly chat :) The next morning we woke up, packed our stuff and headed out for a day of retail therapy...it would be rude not to!

Before we hit the shops though, we needed to refuel and wake up so we headed to Leon- a chain which I am increasingly impressed with! The food was amazing, the service was fabulous and the decor- WOW. I need a gherkin lightshade STAT.

AMAZING
We managed to pick up some goodies which will inevitably be featured here at some point and hopped on the coach back home! I can honestly say I have never been so relieved to kick off my shoes and slob in front of X factor :)

A BIG thank you to Emma and Aussie for organising this and also to all the amazing bloggers who came and made it such a fabulous night... if you comment on this post,  I can link to you all properly :)

What did you do for Bonfire night? What do you do to glam up?

On a rocky path...

It's week 5 and I've just hit the wall. A big, oppressive, 'I'm-not-going-to-let-you-do-any-work' kind of wall. It's quite imposing to be honest, and as much as I'd love to oblige I'm afraid that's just not possible at the moment. So, old brickface, I'd quite like you to let me past now. Okaythanks.

I'm writing this post for all the students out there who I know are suffering that same sinking feeling as we're being swamped with work. Fear not. Help is at hand... and as you probably know by now my helpful offerings are usually one of two things. 1) Completely irrelevant and useless 2) Baked goods. Thankfully the latter is true today...well, kinda.

This is a super quick no-bake recipe for rocky road. It's cheap, it's cheerful, it's chocolate. What more can I say?

Oh yeah. OM.

Ingredients
100g Dark Chocolate
100g Milk Chocolate
70g Unsalted butter
60g raisins/sultanas
60g marshmallows
40g rich tea biscuits, crushed.

Method
Break both types of chocolate into squares and pop into a bowl along with the butter. Place the bowl over a saucepan of recently boiled water [no need to keep it over the gas] and melt gently until smooth and glossy. Once melted remove from the heat and stir in the extra bits.

Line a small tin/plastic food box with Clingfilm and pour in the chocolatey mixture. Whoops, did I leave some in the bowl? Will have to figure a way of getting rid of it some how...

Stick it in the fridge once it's reached room temp for at least two hours [I know, I was crying 30 minutes in] and once hardened simply remove, slice and gobble.

So there's your stress relieving, endorphin releasing, brick-wall bashing rocky road.

Enjoy!!

Loooove chocolate.

21

Yes, you read that right, I am now 21! As you know I absolutely love my birthday and this year was no exception! My birthday started last Saturday when my family and Mark's parents came to visit and we all went out for a gorgeous meal. The food was amazing and the people at the pub were so so nice, I can't praise them enough!

I had prawns in a chilli and garlic butter with rice and stir-fried vegetables.  NOM
It was lovely to catch up with everyone and it was a brilliant start to my birthday :) On my actual birthday, I was woken up with breakfast in bed and then presents and cupcakes from my lovely friends and house mates, Danni and Lisa.

My friends Pete and Mike came down to celebrate with me and my house mates. Carnage naturally ensued! ;)

Do we watch too much ANTM?!
We went out to a new bar and had an amazing time and Mark amused us by pulling faces like this:

OH DEAR.
We had an absolutely fantastic night though, although if you are ever offered the drink, liquid cocaine, DECLINE AT ALL COSTS! In addition to these lovely parties, I also received some very nice gifts...

I am so lucky to have such amazing friends and family... thank you all so much and bring on my next birthday! :)

What do you do on your birthday?

Wear it pink

Last week Emily challenged me, amongst other bloggers, to "Wear It Pink" for Breast Cancer Campaign in order to raise awareness and funds for vital research into treatment and cure for breast cancer. We have all pledged to "Wear It Pink" and post out outfit photos - what else would fashion bloggers do?!

I don't have much pink in my wardrobe, in fact I only have this pink silk blouse which I picked up for next to nothing in Debenhams AGES ago. I paired it with black to ensure that it really stood out and added gold accessories to make it a bit more interesting. Apologies for the very odd angle and cluttered background, it was the only place in our house with any light- don't you hate when it's dark when you wake up AND when you go to sleep?!

I look so dopey! Ah well, it's all in the name of charity!!

I like how bright this pink is- especially with the gold, maybe I need to invest in more pinks in my wardrobe? :P

Go check out the Pink outfits of my fellow bloggers: Sherin of HiFashion, Leia of Leia's Delights, Florrie of Intrinsically Florrie, Laura of Political Style, Amanda of Forty Not Out and Zoe of Splodz Blogz. If you're also taking part and Wearing It Pink, leave a comment below with a link to your post and  please remember to donate HERE.

P.S. I will be writing up my 21st birthday soon so here's a sneak peek of what to expect!

Pull the other one

Earlier this week, I decided to go an impromptu shopping trip [when I say impromptu, I mean of course completely planned in order to buy supplies for a certain bloggers birthday...Happy Birthday Maria!]. Somewhat awkwardly, Miss Fallon decided she'd like to join and although it led to a not-so-subtle splitting up for half an hour, she also managed to seek out the perfect jumper for me! Y'see, after getting over-excited about finally getting a job, I went on another unplanned shopping spree [oops] and bought a lovely maxi skirt from Dorothy Perkins. Lovely Jubbly. Although, of course I had nothing to wear with it and, despite knowing exactly what I was looking for, I couldn't see anything anywhere - even cybershopping failed this time!

Luckily, Maria kept an eye out while she was gliding through H&M and voila, found this beauty alone on the sale rack.

Behold. The perfect cropped, cream jumper. Behold, the not so perfect pulls on the material.

Part of me was ready to put it back, after all £24.99 was steep for a jumper anyway...snags or not and as there was no sale tag I presumed someone had put it there by accident. Nevertheless, I wanted it. BAD. So when I got to the till I asked, in as nice and un-cheeky a way as possible if I could possibly have a reduction on it. Please? And just like that, it was mine for a mere £5. Considering I was going to be happy with half price, this was a real bargain. And it looks perfect with my maxi skirt...yay!

It got me wondering though, am I a really cheeky shopper? I've asked for reductions on a few things lately as they're the last in my size, and perfect except for some annoying pulls or small rips. I know so many people who would just buy it anyway, or wait for new stock...what do you guys think? Am I rude to ask for money off?!

Oh, and I've finally jumped on the Barry-M bandwagon with my cracked nails. I actually bought the stuff weeks ago, but have suffered from manky-hand syndrome after shoving boxes around and unstapling labels. Nice. I've gotta say I love the stuff, although it took two coats of clear over the top to make it look glossy and even - I think I was expecting the crackle effect to be less dense. Either way, it's amazing, and next time I'll definitely try it over a brighter colour!

Also, it's Halloween this weekend!! I never normally get excited... one bad experience of trick or treating was enough to put me off for life. It involved me, a gate, and a hungry dog. Go figure. Anyway, this year we're planning to make a bit of an effort, I can almost feel myself getting in the spooky mood already...

anyone else planning some spooktastic partys?!
