Frills 'n' Spills

Christmas can be quite strange. It's probably when you spend the longest on the sofa but your clothes tend to be pretty fancy and unsuited for slouching - in my house at least! I picked up this velvet shift dress during Gap's Black Friday sale and I couldn't be more chuffed with it. The simple shape makes it easy to wear and the burgundy colour is pretty festive, even though I will definitely be wearing it all year round. I couldn't believe how pale it made me look though, I am almost blending into the wall behind me!

Any tips for wearing dark lippie?

Weekends for me fall into one of two types- jam-packed and full of nice food and dressy outfits  and travelling to see friends and family or slobbing around, doing as little as possible whilst binging through series on Netflix- please tell me someone else is as obsessed with Agents of Shield as I am?! This outfit was worn for a weekend like the latter a few weeks ago, quite often  I won't bother to get dressed and you will find me happily curled up in my 'slob suit' but I had to make a run to Tesco so had to wear proper clothes which was a bit of a shock to the system! I rediscovered this Monki dress at the back of my wardrobe- yes I know, I need to have a proper clearout! I bought this dress back in January 2014 (along with this dress and these tights- I was clearly having a burgundy moment!) and although I have worn it a lot, it has never made it to the blog, until now! Although this is a super cosy outfit, it is slim fitting enough to be flattering and I don't boil to death which is always a bonus, I think I have finally found the perfect jumper dress!

Which TV series should I watch next? Send me your recommendations please!

These photos were taken all the way back in September but as this is an outfit I wear fairly often, I decided to use these pictures despite the clear change in the weather. I may always be warm but even I can't get away with just short sleeves now! I really love burgundy but I only seem to wear it in Autumn, I guess it just feels too heavy at any other time of year? These photos weren't taken in our usual location but I like the more urban look that our car park gives them (ah how pretentious does that sound?!) This is a pretty standard outfit for me these days, my pretty blouses have been looking too twee when paired with skirts so jeans have been the perfect way to toughen them up. 

I have raved about my beautiful half pint Brit Stitch satchel before but isn't it just beautiful? I love the fact that it matches my top so well too, I was so chuffed when I saw the blue-y grey colour in the pattern!

These jeans are another Gap purchase- am I just particularly short (I wear a 30" leg and the regular length is still too long on me) or are all of Gap's jeans just really long? Turn-ups are a bit of a love/hate thing but anything that draws attention to these awesome shoes can only be a good thing (at least till I can find somewhere to get them tailored)

A couple of weekends ago my grandparents threw a mini party (read cake and ice-cream) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their engagement. You know I take any excuse to dress up and this burgundy dress was ideal for the chilly weather. Burgundy is one of my favourite colours to wear and it feels really decadent (especially when paired with faux fur and gold accessories) It was massively windy when Mark was taking this pictures so they look pretty silly but they were also quite fun, it's impossible to take yourself too seriously when the wind is threatening to blow you over! 

Selina is a blogger who I have followed for a long time and it was so nice to see her again and catch up, I haven't seen her since we were big winners at the SWBloggers Xmas Quiz last year! 

I need to get me a bright pink vase!

I have been a lot more confident with wearing darker lipsticks this year and I really love the pared back look with the really dramatic lips. Unfortunately my skin has now gone completely mental so it will be a while before I wear this little foundation/concealer!

Tweed is one of those fabrics that I really love. Whether it is the country girl in me or just because I can't resist these most Autumnal of fabrics, if I see something even vaguely tweedy, you can guarantee that it will end up coming home with me! This dress was an impulse buy from Tesco early one weekday morning but despite that, I really love it! I have worn it quite a few times when I need to feel more pulled together at work and it always gets complimented (which is always nice!) I have just realised that everything but the tights in this outfit is from Tesco, clearly I can't resist their clothing ;)

As it has still been pretty warm recently, I didn't need anything more than my cardigan to keep warm but I plan to layer this dress up with sheer shirts and blouses when the temperatures do drop, I have a green top that would go perfectly with the checked pattern. 

Guess what? It's another burgundy jeans/striped t-shirt combination! There's something about burgundy and navy together which I love and when these beautiful shoes arrived, I knew that I would be pairing them with these jeans, I can't be the only one who plans an outfit around a pair of shoes right?! I love wearing sandals with jeans and trousers as you can show off your new shoes whilst avoiding that awkward 'bare legs at work' scenario. I never feel comfortable with bare legs unless I have a midi dress on, it just feels too exposed otherwise!

Any tips for breaking in my new heels?

It's awful but as soon as it gets cold, all creativity goes out of the window as I bundle up in more and more layers. Pretty prints and coloured jeans helps to make it look like I have put some effort into this outfit but don't be fooled, this as comfy as it gets. I love the combination of camel and burgundy together and it is a nice way to slowly introduce some colour in for spring...

I picked this top up for a few pounds in ASDA when I was doing my shopping and I thought it was gorgeous. I love how sheer it is and the shape feels very 'boho chic', I can't wait to wear it with my denim shorts this summer! I wasn't sure if the shape worked on me but I figure with some fitted trousers, you can get away with wearing something more oversized right?

The colour of the flowers are lovely and I know that this top will get a lot of wear as the weather warms up, I reckon they would match this skirt or these trousers perfectly! I have been wearing my hair like this a lot recently, I never used to be able to pull it off when my hair was shorter but it is the perfect way to keep my hair out of my eyes.
