Sunshine yellow...

Unlike red, yellow is not a colour that I wear very often. I love it as a colour but finding a shade that flatters me is pretty tricky. I spotted this top in Warehouse a couple of months ago and I fell in love and thankfully the colour actually works on me. It is more lemon in person but it is impossible to photograph so you will just have to take my word for how nice a colour it is! Paired with my favourite skinny jeans and some shiny shoes, it was the perfect outfit for dinner and drinks.

Top: Warehouse, jeans: River Island, shoes: River Island, necklace: Warehouse
I love wearing lipstick but eyeshadow is still a bit of a new one for me so I have been trying to push myself out of my make-up comfort zone. I always feel a bit weird wearing really heavy eye make-up when it is still light outside (yes, I know it's a strange things to be bothered by!) so I opted for a soft brown/bronze look instead. It still looked like I had made an effort but I didn't feel too overdressed walking into town, win win!

Necklace: Warehouse
These beautiful pleated sleeves were my favourite part of this top, aren't they fun?! They are quite long though so I wouldn't advise eating messy foods with these because they will dip into absolutely everything!

Shiny shoes will always be fun and this River Island pair are one of my favourites. Because they are flat they are super comfy and I can dance the whole night away in them. More proof that basics don't have to be boring

Sunshine yellow (or when I dressed like an egg yolk) ...

I thought I would resume normal scheduling (hopefully) with this bright outfit which I wore a few weekends ago in the blazing sunshine. Isn't it cheery?! It was (another) Gap sale purchase and it is the perfect outfit for this humid weather. This was potentially a horrendous outfit for me as bright yellow usually doesn't suit me but I loved the dress so much that I couldn't leave it behind - even if I do look like I'm dressed like an egg yolk, haha! Certain outfits are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and this is definitely one of them! The straps on this dress make it look slightly like a tabard but they are flattering, even if  I look like a member of the von Trapp family ;)

Dress: Gap, sandals: c/o George at ASDA
I have been using macadamia oil on my hair again recently, the summer sun always frazzles my hair but a couple of drops of this help to smooth the frizz and improve the condition. I try not to wear make-up in the sunshine (nothing worse than it melting down your face!) but a swipe of blusher and a neutral red (is there such a thing?!) make me feel slightly less naked.

My favourite thing about this dress is that it has pockets! What more could you ask for in a dress?! I spotted this bracelet in the Accessorize sale and although I usually find jewellery too fussy to wear all day, this one doesn't clank on my desk (always a win!) and its neutral tones mean it goes with anything- not bad for a few quid!

I love a swooshy skirt and this one is super fun, especially paired with these gorgeous sandals, I was skipping all the way to the park, haha!

Lemon yellow maxi skirt....

It has been a while (nearly three years in fact!) since I last wore this skirt but the sunny weather a few weeks ago was the perfect opportunity to dig it out again. Yellow can be a bit of a difficult colour to wear but paired with white, it is much more wearable and this felt like a really fun and cheery outfit that really put a spring in my step. There's nothing like swooshing around in a maxi skirt to put a smile on your face! The skirt itself is pretty sheer, despite being lined, so I pulled out my trusty lace-trimmed cycle shorts to make it decent. I'm not sure quite why it is quite so see through but I thought I would rather be safe than sorry. The H&M shorts are notoriously hard to get hold of but I managed to find some in my local store so stocked up. I just wish I could get hold of a black pair too!

Cardigan: Tesco, top: Gap, necklace: New Look, skirt: New Look, sandals: Matalan
I'm not quite sure what happened with the lighting in these photos but I promise my make-up was the right shade in person! I have been mixing my Nars Orgasm illuminator with my beloved Dr Jart BB cream for a natural glowy finish recently and I really like it paired with a peachy lipstick (my favourite is the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Pink Brandy, it is such a gorgeous shade and so easy to build up.

I love cropped cardis like this as they nip me in nicely at the waist and stop me from looking too shapeless. This thin cotton one is ideal for me as I can wear it over a vest top without feeling too warm- always a problem when you radiate heat! This necklace is one of my favourites and has the perfect colours to match my nails and make-up which is always a bonus!

These sandals were one of the best things I bought last year and they were the first shoes I thought of to pair with this outfit. This is a long skirt so the block heel added some much needed height and they were simple enough to not distract from the rest of the outfit. The nail polish I am wearing is the Max Factor mini nail varnish in Diva Coral and it is the perfect summery shade- you all know how much I love coral! ;)

The seaside dress...

This post contains items that were sent for review

I promised you that I would be sharing my George picks and I am so excited to be sharing this outfit with you. Certain things really put a spring in your step and this seaside dress is my new favourite thing in my wardrobe. Paired with my cat-eye sunglasses, I felt like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday when I was swooshing around in the park in this- what more could you ask for from a dress?! I just need Gregory Peck to whisk me around on a Vespa now! (swoon). 1950s style dresses are always flattering on me and this one fits me like a glove. It feels like a grown-up version of the infamous Venice dress that I loved all the way back at uni and I couldn't be happier with it. Mark and I have been exploring Cheltenham more recently and this wisteria-filled park was a nice change in backdrop- definitely expect to see it on the blog again soon!

Dress: c/o George at ASDA, shoes: c/o George at ASDA, tights: Tesco, sunglasses: Accessorize
You can see how happy I am with this dress with the cheesy grin I have here! I kept my make-up pretty simple, mixing my Nars Orgasm illuminator with my beloved Dr Jart BB cream for a natural glowy finish. Lipstick-wise I paired Allure with Max Factor Xperience Sheer Gloss Balm in shade 02 for the perfect peachy shade.

I know I will get a lot of wear from this dress in the summer and I can't wait to pair it with my bright yellow bag and sandals or this navy pair, the beauty of a busy pattern like this means that there are plenty of colours that you can pick out! I was originally going to go for a classic red nail varnish but I decided to wear Essie 'Spin the Bottle' on my nails instead which is definitely my perfect nude shade!

You know I can't resist a full skirt and this one is deliciously swooshy. The extra material could be a little overwhelming but the nipped in waist stops me from drowning in fabric. A midi length like this would be better with heels but I actually love it with flats, not least because I could run around without any problems.

P.S. I was sent these items to review but if I didn't love this dress, I wouldn't feature it!

Pastel knitwear...

I seem to be saying this a lot recently but apologies for the rubbish photos! I bought this gorgeous lemon yellow jumper a few days after my birthday and have worn it so often- it is just so darned cosy! The office is always freezing first thing in a Monday morning so a cosy knit is essential. I usually go for deeper jewel colours in the winter but maybe I can make wintry pastels a regular feature in my wardrobe again? The jumper is quite a feature on its own so I decided to keep the rest of my outfit fairly simple. I am guilty of often over-complicating things but hopefully I have managed to pare back my worst tendencies recently!

Jumper: Topshop, necklace: Accessorize, top: H&M, jeans: Warehouse, shoes: Clarks
The jumper is so deliciously cosy and is the perfect accompaniment to my current favourite necklace. As always, I am loving coral toned make-up, I bought a mini Benefit set from Boots which had a mini Coralista blusher and although I go through phases with how much I like the colour, I do wear it a lot. It is pretty subtle and adds a healthy glow to my everyday make-up but I can build it up if I want something more intense. I probably won't shell out for the full size one though, I have my eye on the Majorette blusher instead! I know I have raved about Percy & Reed's Wonder Balm before but it really is such a good product for my hair- fellow curly and wavy haired girls take note!

I was so chuffed when I found these Clarks grey shoeboots when we moved. They are ridiculously comfy to wear thanks to their slim wedge heel. Paired with my Warehouse skinny jeans they make me look much taller too which is never a bad thing! This is probably the closest match to the real colour of the jumper, I will have to take some proper pictures of it at some point!

White out...

I'm not sure why I look quite so cheery in these pictures but it makes a refreshing change- usually I tend to  look bleary-eyed rather than chirpy! This outfit is a more casual version of this one and I have been wearing it a lot recently. The top was a recent impulse purchase in the Matalan sale and it looks equally good with high-waisted skirts as it does with skinny jeans- always a winner in my book! I love the jazzy print at the top too, it makes even the most simple outfit look more pulled together. The one problem is that it creases ridiculously quickly, I had ironed it not more than 10 minutes before these photos were taken but you wouldn't know it from all the creases. It's a good job I'm looking pretty relaxed about it huh?! Matalan have really impressed me recently, I could spend a fortune in my local store and I'm sure I certainly will come payday...

Top: Matalan, jeans:Gap, shoes: Matalan, cheesy grin: model's own
The best part about a simple outfit like this is that you can go completely overboard on the accessories! This bright yellow bag is the perfect way to add some sunshine and paired with my new favourite lipstick (Mac Lady Bug) I was hot to trot...

I know I have been raving about these skinny jeans but they are just so darned good! The cuffed hems were slightly annoying but they do mean that I can show off my snazzy shoes nicely ;) These sandals are the best thing I have bought in a long time and seem to match everything in my (ever-growing) wardrobe, I will definitely be buying a spare pair for when these wear out...

The Brit Pack Presents: the Pastel Parade...

I will admit, when we agreed that the theme for this month's Brit Pack would be pastels, I did panic. Thanks to my ghostly complexion I don't wear them that often (only a handful of times over the past 4 and a half years!) I was struggling to think of an outfit that fitted the pastel criteria when I remembered this 'Easter egg' dress which I have had for years. I love the pale yellow colour and it is perfect for the beginning of Spring, especially now the sun is out on a regular basis!

Dress: Topshop, camisole: Primark, shoes: Clarks
Although the colour is potentially a bit too twee (even for me!) bright lipstick and an open back help to add a bit of an edge. I have never actually worn this out of the house without a camisole or slip dress underneath it as the open back goes all the way down to the waist and I;m not quite brave enough to wear it out of the house! ;) I always seem to pair pastels with this gorgeous coral lipstick, it is just the perfect spring-like colour!

I normally end up pairing grey or red with this dress to make the pastels more wearable but as soon as I remembered my orange shoes, I was sold. The orange colour looks fab with the lemon yellow and these heels are just so darned comfy that I would wear them with everything if I could! You can see how pale the dress is here along with my pasty limbs, the orange looks almost neon in comparison!

How do you wear pastels?

Blue, yellow and red...

When Modcloth emailed me and asked if I wanted to participate in their 'Uniquely You' campaign I couldn't wait. I love Modcloth and although I haven't used my profile for around 4 years, I used to love Polyvore and this was a pretty fun way to get back into it. It definitely isn't helping my shopping habit to be looking at all these pretty clothes though ;) I have featured the Lead by Example dress which is the perfect blank canvas. Can you tell I am loving all things primary coloured at the moment? Click through for more detail on these pieces and don't blame me if you want to buy it all!

P.S. Modcloth asked me to make this collage but I have not been compensated for this post!

What's in my bag: the sunshine edition...

Now I know some of you will be rolling your eyes at a bit of a cliche post but as it has been over 3 years since I have last done a 'what's in my bag' post, I think I am entitled to show off my new Fiorelli handbag without too much grumbling right?! ;) Usually you would find all of the stuff seen below... and a layer of receipts and debris filling up my bag but as this is a new handbag, it hasn't had chance to get completely full yet. Just give me a week...  ;) The colour of this was what first drew me to it, and the basket weave makes it feel very summery too. The fact that it is HUGE, is a massive bonus. I can fit everything but the kitchen sink in here...

Sunshine yellow handbag from Fiorelli c/o Spartoo
Like many other people, I carry round a lot of stuff. After the usual purse, phone, keys I have whichever book I am reading at the moment (P.S. I just finished The Cuckoo's Calling and it is really good!), my diabetes stuff with my beloved Frodo key ring, Sudoku book for doing on my daily commute and toiletries. I love the fact that the compressed deodorants are teeny but with the same amount of product, deodorant/bodyspray is a necessity in this hot weather!

My purse is a lovely red leather Radley with a really cute dog in a boat, the perfect summer activity,  The latest Radley dog to win my affections is this "Catch of the Day" as it has the Radley dog and a puffin, two of my favourite things... There was a really nice blue purse with them on but it has now disappeared from Radley's website - if anyone comes across it, get in touch! The brown pouch holds all of my diabetes stuff, after nearly 16 years I have managed to really pare down the amount of medical stuff I cart round with me (not that you would know if from the size of my bag!)

Dress for any weather...

The best dresses are those that you can wear throughout the year and this Peacocks dress has proven a favourite choice even now that the weather is colder.  I swapped my yellow sandals for some slightly more practical mustard flats and some grey woolly tights to keep me cosy.

Dress: Peacocks, cardigan: ASOS, belt: Miss Selfridge, tights: Primark, shoes: Primark
My favourite grey cardigan and mustard belt were the perfect match to pick up the colours in this dress and you know how much I love being matchy-matchy!

Slightly bleary eyes courtesy of a nice early morning start! I have been using my Macadamia hair oil set recently (my lovely gift from #SWBXmas)  and my hair has never felt smoother! I will definitely be buying the full size of this once I have finished off the taster set.

These woolly tights always remind me of the ones I used to wear at school all those years ago and they are great for wearing with those slightly shorter skirts and dresses in winter. I love them so much that I have at least 3 or 4 pirs in constant rotation- not bad for a Primark bargain!

Which dresses do you keep coming back to all year-round ? Do you like being matchy-matchy?

Oranges and lemons...

For a few glorious hours, I could put my sunglasses back on and pretend I was back in Italy. I actually wore this dress when I was away but when the sun came out I pulled it out of the wardrobe again. Paired with my favourite summer shoes, it was probably my cheeriest outfit to date...

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, shoes: Clarks, sunglasses: Accessorize, watch: Guess
The shape of this dress is one I tend to favour with its nipped in waist and swooshy skirt but the pattern is not something I would usually choose, I don't tend to like things that are too direct a rip off of the catwalks and this was definitely inspired by that Stella McCartney show but it's pretty fun and looks great in the sunshine too...

For someone who never used to wear yellow, I sure have a lot of it! These shoes from Clarks are so comfy and such a talking point you would be crazy not to buy them (especially when they are on sale!)

Watch: Guess via Sherin
Still in love with my watch despite my initial misgivings. I always find the things I am slightly ambivalent about are always the ones I become completely attached to (case in point a ridiculously unflattering gold Gap cardigan which is still floating around somewhere, rips and all...)
I'm worth it...
Outtake of the day: trying to flip my hair out of my face, I'm not sure I could look much more ridiculous!

What outfits put a smile on your face? Do you have clothes that are blatant catwalk rip offs?

Canary yellow shoes...

Since starting this blog, my style and I have changed beyond recognition. If you had told me nearly three years ago (!) that I would be wearing a long sleeved dress with canary yellow shoes, I wouldn't have believed you! Blogging has been one of the constants throughout several years of change and this little corner of the internet has inspired me in so many different ways

Dress: Peacocks, shoes: Clarks, belt: Miss Selfridge
Although Peacocks is now officially defunct, there are still a few stores clinging on for dear life and there just happens to be one in Stroud. I bought this dress on a bit of a whim as I don't usually wear long sleeves, but the zingy print and gorgeous colours sold it to me. I think you will agree that it is perfect for this 'summer' weather we are having too! I liked the way the long sleeves balanced out the length too, it was the only way I could think of, to make sandals office appropriate!

Recently I have been loving all things yellow and this belt picks up the yellow in the pattern on the dress perfectly...

Clarks shoes, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... You all know how much I love Clarks shoes and these are definitely no exception. The shoes have a pad underneath the ball of my feet so even though I was dashing around all day, my feet were really comfy, without even a blister. These shoes come in 4 different colours and I am seriously tempted to buy them all, at least I know that they are comfy right?!

Beautiful canary yellow T-bar sandals from Clarks and my favourite nude fishnets.

What has been your constant over the past few years? Which items have you been tempted to bulk buy?
